The Church of Lady Rosary is believed to be the ancient most church which is still existing in Goa. The Church of Lady Rosary in Goa is situated at the top of the Holy Hill - Monte Santo. The Church of Lady Rosary was built by Alfonso de Albuquerque after he defeated the Sultan of Bijapur in the year 1510.
Looked after by the Franciscans, the Lady Rosary Church was built in accordance to the Manueline architectural style. The Manueline architectural style is a blend of European Renaissance and Gothic architectures. It was very popular at that time in Portugal.
The magnificently constructed church has a wonderful image of the Our Lady of the Rosary or Nossa Senhora de Rozario as named in Portuguese. One can also see Garcia de Sa's tomb stone near the altar of the church. Located at a very convenient area near Panaji, the Lady Rosary Church is a major tourism destination in Goa.
