Rahul Dravid

‘The wall of the Indian cricket team’, ‘Mr Dependable’, ‘Mr Consistent’, these are some of the epithets used to describe the captain of Indian cricket team, Rahul Sharad Dravid or Rahul Dravid. Born on January 11, 1973 in Indore, this guy made the head turns when he scored a century in debut match of his school cricket team.

This Maharashtrian made his Ranji debut against his home state Maharashtra in 1991. His consistent performance in domestic circuit earned him the seat in the National cricket team. He played his first One Day International against Sri Lanka in 1996, but could not do well. Due to his not so good performance, Rahul Dravid was made to sit out of the team. He marked his arrival with a bang, scoring 95 in his Test debut against England. Rahul’s performance improved with each match, he made his maiden Test century against South Africa in 1996-97.

Initially criticized for being a slow run scorer in ODIs, today Rahul Dravid holds the record of 331 run partnership with Sachin Tendulkar. Apart from this, there is a long list of records made by this Wisden Cricketer of the Year (2000). This highest ranked Indian batsman in the ICC Test ranking, also holds the record of being the only player to score a century against every Test playing nation away from home.

This stalwart of Indian cricket is awarded with loads of accolades and honors from fans as well as ICC, including ICC Test player of the year award in 2004. Currently at the helms of Indian cricket team, Rahul Dravid is setting new goals.
