President of India Pranab Mukherjee has congratulated the Indian players who won the medals at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014. He gave his best wishes to Bijneesh Bajrang, Lalita, Navjot Kaur, Swati Singh and Lalita for their accomplishments in CWG. He wrote separate letters and said that the achievement of the players has proved that the Indian sportsmen are capable of reaching the top at the international level.

Croma & Intel have jointly launched two Windows 8.1-based devices – a 10.1-inch 2-in-1 PC with an attached keyboard, along with a tablet with 8-inch display feature. The 10-inch model will be available at a price of Rs 21,990 while the 8-inch model will be priced at Rs 13,990. The 8-inch tablet will only be available in the Croma outlets and the retail site of the company only.
After winning the Bronze medal in the artistic gymnastics event, Dipa Karmakar has created a history by becoming the first Indian woman and the second player from the country. Karmarkar collected 14.366 points to finish the third in the women’s vault final.England’s Claudia Fragapane bagged the gold medal with 14.633 and Silver went to Elsabeth Black.
Jet Airways declared a discounted offer on booking of its air tickets from 1 August 2014 to 4 August 2014. The offer is available for domestic travel only beginning from 1 September 2014 and the fares start at Rs 1,499 inclusive of all taxes. Also, its competitor SpiceJet has also announced special discount offers which are also available from 1 August 2014 to 3 August 2014.
Tata Motors Ltd is planning to launch a passenger car to revive its share in the Indian market and cover up the losses it has incurred due to slow economy. The car is named Zest, which is a compact sedan and is built with user friendly features. According to industry data, the domestic car sales of the automobile company fell to 39 percent year on year and its market share dropped to 4.2 percent by the end of June. The company has plans to launch two new vehicles every year till 2020 to boost its sales in the market.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has informed the government that they would not be able to postpone or scrap CSAT examination 2014. It has advised the government that the examination should take place as per schedule on 24 August 2014. In a response to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), UPSC has said that the postponement at this point could invite litigations as nearly 2 lakh admit cards have been already circulated among the students.
The death toll has risen to 51 in the landslide in Pune. Heavy rains continue in the calamity-hit Malin village in Pune district, causing obstacles in the efforts made by the rescue workers who are trying to dig up through debris and heavy mud. There are reports that 100 people are still missing and feared dead in the area. According to the authorities, there is less possibility of their people there as they are still cornered under the mud.
US Secretary of State John Kerry met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence 7,Race Course Road in Delhi. The meeting took place afer he met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. On a three-day visit to India for the Indo-US Strategic Dialogue, Kerry has earlier said that the vision of India Prime Minister is similar to that of US President Barack Obama.
