The flood fury loomed large over a dozen Bihar districts on Sunday with major rivers like the Ganga, Gandak, Budhi Gandak, Kosi overflowing and causing hardship to five million people. Flood toll has risen to 132. The Ganga was above the danger mark at Patna, but District Magistrate N. Saravana Kumar has assured that the city was safe. Situation has deteriorated in Begusarai, Munger, Bhagalpur, Khagaria as the swollen Ganga has unleashed havoc in over 1,000 villages. The flood waters have inundated the national highway at many points. The National Disaster Response Force and state disaster response teams are handling the situation.
The Jodhpur Police arrested the self proclaimed Godman, Asaram Bapu from his Indore Ashram after midnight. A huge contingent of police personnel was with him when he was taken to Indore Airport. This was done after the confirmation from doctors that he can be flown in for interrogation. The Jodhpur Police went for his arrest with the medical report, and the entire operation was done in 30 minutes after a wait of eight hours in the ashram. He has been flown in into Delhi from where he was brought to Jodhpur. The 16 year old girl had filed a complaint at a police station in Delhi on Aug 20, of sexual assault on her by Asaram at his ashram in Jodhpur. Asaram will be first produced in the court before the interrogation starts.
$8.5 billion in foreign exchange can be saved related to expenditure on crude oil imports in 2013-14 if the country got in more supplies from Iran, which has agreed to accept payment in rupees. This was informed by the Oil Minister M. Veerappa Moily to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in a letter which chalks out strategy for foreign exchange outflow. Moily stated there may be import to the tune of about 13 million tonnes of oil from Iran in 2013/14 as 2 million tonnes has already been imported in this fiscal. Total savings from different measures can be $20 billion from the energy sector. As US and EU have imposed sanctions on Iran for reduction of oil exports considering its nuclear programme, Tehran is willing to accept the payment in rupees for some of its oil which would help the situation currently prevailing in India.
The Hyderabad Hotshots spearheaded by Saina Nehwal lifted the inaugural IBL title at the National Sports Club of India at Mumbai. The Hotshots defeated the Lucknow-based Awadhe Warriors 3-1 in the final to be the winners. Saina, Ajay Jayaram and Goh V. Shem and Lim Khim Wah were victorious in their matches to get the title even though K Srikanth of Awadhe Warriors won the match against Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk to help Warriors take a 1-0 lead. But Saina defeated P.V. Sindhu in the women’s singles for the 2nd time in IBL. Warriors favorite Markis Kido and Mathias Boe in the men’s doubles tie had to suffer defeat in the hands of Goh and Lim of Malaysia. Then R.M.V. Gurusaidutt though starting off well against Hotshots’ Jayaram was defeated 10-21, 21-17, 11-7 to give the Hotshots edge over the Warriors.
The popular pair of Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha may be seen again for Anees Bazmee's upcoming comedy film 'Welcome Back'. Talks are in process with the producer Firoz Nadiadwala and director Anees Bazmee and the actors for 'Welcome' sequel. Bachchan will be essaying the role of RDX, the Don which was enacted by Late Feroze Khan. Rekha may be portraying the character of a wealthy fashionista. They are yet to talk with Rekha on this. Both the actors have done 'Do Anjaane', 'Muqaddar Ka Sikander', 'Mr Natwarlal', 'Suhaag' and 'Silsila'. The movie which will go on floors in a month's time also has John Abraham and Shruti Hassan in it this time.

Micromax aims to position itself as the top player in India in the smartphone domain by Diwali riding on the wave of huge request for its Canvas series. Micromax has moved to number two slot having 22% of the market share in Q2 and will be the top player in Q3 as per its Co-Founder Rahul Sharma. It shipped for more than two million units as Indian market is responding amazingly to phablet-driven smartphones. Micromax earlier had 18.8 per cent share. The company intends to edge past USD 1 billion in future with its strategy and innovative product coupled with pricing factor.
