There won’t be any shutdown of the petrol pumps at night as stated by M. Veerappa Moily, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister. There were reports earlier that the petrol pumps will be shutdown from 8 pm to 8 am as a measure for demand curtailment in the backdrop of a steep hike in the prices of crude oil and declining value of the rupee. Moily stated that no decision has been taken in this regard. In fact he also stated that this suggestion came from the public of shutting down the petrol pumps and not from the government. Also, it was informed that there is no proposal in the pipeline for regulating sale of petroleum products.
Asaram Bapu has been sent to 14 days of judicial custody by a court in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The self declared Godman got arrested after there were charges on him for alleged sexual assault on a 16 year old girl. He will be in judicial custody till September 15 and will be staying at Jodhpur Central Jail. Earlier he was interrogated for the charges against him. The incident happened at an ashram in Jodhpur where the girl had gone for treatment along with her family. Asaram was arrested in his ashram at Indore and flown to Delhi on Sunday and from there he was brought to Jodhpur. He was in one day police remand.
Stock market had a positive mood and gained for the fourth consecutive session, spurred by buying in FMCG, metal and oil & gas stocks. The improved global scenario with the Chinese industrial data, boosted the mood. Sensex ended at 18,886.13 which was 266 points higher while Nifty closed at 5,550.75, with an increase of 78.95 points. The major gainers were Tata Steel up by 5.5% while Hindalco got a gain of 3.8%, RIL, saw an increase of 3.8%, and ITC, increased by 3.7%. Rupee traded at 65.98, that is a dip of 0.4%.
Bangalore’s Anjana Padmanabhan became the first Indian Idol Junior whereas first runner up was Debanjana Mitra and Anmol Jaswal and Nirvesh Dave bagged the second runner up position. Amitabh Bachchan was present at the grand finale, to also promote Sony’s next big show Kaun Banega Crorepati that starts soon from 6th September. As a prize, Anjana not only got Rs 25 lakh in cash but also a Nissan Micra car, Fixed Deposit of Rs. 5 lakh in her name at Kotak and Rs 2 lakhs from Horlicks. She got crowned by the Big B. Indian Idol Junior saw participation of 86 contestants from across the country.
The itinerary for India's tour to England in the summer of 2014 has been announced. India will this time play 5 tests at Lord's, Trent Bridge, Old Trafford, Southampton and the Oval. In fact a five test series was last played by India in 1959. In the series there also will be 5 ODIs as well as Twenty20 international, and the series will end in September. Test at Southampton will get confirmation after the surveillance of the facilities. ODIs will be played at Cardiff, Edgbaston, Trent Bridge, Headingley and Bristol. Twenty20 international will be played at Edgbaston. India toured England in 2011 and England then grabbed the series 4-0.

Hindustan Motors Ltd. has unveiled Ambassador Encore which is its latest BS-IV compliant diesel variant at Rs 4,97,996 which is ex-showroom price in Kolkata. The booking for this started on 2nd September. These vehicles are a part of ‘no-refusal’ taxi fleet. Those who purchase this will get discounts in exchange of old vehicles. This vehicle has greater power, more efficient control, power steering, fuel efficiency, among other features and complies with the norms of Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). 2000 permits have been allocated for the no refusal taxis and 2000 more are in the pipeline.
