Modi's remark on Article 370 invites sharp criticism

Narendra Modi’s statement for a debate on Article 370 of the Constitution, that assigns a special status to Jammu and Kashmir, has stirred a hornet’s nest. Apart from the criticism which is coming from different quarters the legal experts have opined that repealing the provision would entail to more difficulty in the accession of the state to India. In fact it is also being said that if this is repealed then accessing Jammu and Kashmir to India would legally be tough as the very foundation will be shaken. On the other hand Shanti Bhushan the former law minister stated the Parliament has the power to amend the constitution under Article 368 but it does not have power to change the basic structure of the constitution. The Union Minister Farooq Abdullah has stated that Modi will not be able to repeal the provisions even if he becomes Prime Minister for 10 terms. Modi in a rally in Jammu on Sunday had stated that Article 370 had been detrimental to the growth of the state. In this rally he had also stated that Omar Abdullah’s sister who was married to Sachin Pilot will not be able to enjoy the same rights as the Omar enjoys. To which Omar had challenged Modi on Twitter to reproduce the details of Article 370. The controversy regarding Modi’s remarks seems will continue for some time.

South Africa has a role to play in MOM launch

In India’a journey to the red planet and the deep space exploration there is an important role played by South Africa. South African National Space Agency or SANSA’s Hartebeesthoek (HBK) ground station offers satellite tracking, command services and telemetry to the MOM. When the PSLV-C25 with MOM shot into the sky from Sriharikota on November 5 HBK intercepted the signal from the satellite after its launch and provided transfer-orbit support services afterwards. The fact that HBK is positioned closest to the satellite per pass it was selected for this operation. An Isro scientist was there during the launch of MOM for coordination.
