The Srinagar-Muzaffarbad bus service started today after it was suspended for a fortnight. The suspension was over the issue of arrest of a driver from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir over charges of drug trafficking. 28 passengers were taken from the Indian side to Kaman Post which is the zero point on LoC in Baramull district’s Uri sector. This included 10 passengers from PoK and 18 from the Valley who were going on a visit to their relative’s place. Travel and trade remained suspended on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road when the driver of a vehicle in which 110 packets of brown sugar may have the value of Rs. 100 crore was confiscated on January 17. In response to this PoK authorities also detained 27 Indian drivers as well as their vehicles and demanded for the release of the arrested driver. In fact they were also not willing to take back 48 other PoK drivers if their demand was not met. After several meetings to do away this deadlock on January 30 it was decided that the bus service be resumed. Also it was decided upon to continue the talk so that the deadlock in the trade could be removed.
