7 crore families to be brought away from BPL in 10 years: Sonia Gandhi

Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi stated that measures should be taken to bring out 7 crore family out of the poverty line in 10 years.

It had been estimated in 2009-2010 that 30% of the population live below the poverty line keeping in consideration the monthly per capita consumption expenditure (MPCE) which had been fixed at Rs.673 in the villages and Rs.860 in the cities.

She said that through Ajeevika Mission or the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) released in 2011, many social and economic changes were implemented in the states where it was launched. This is part financed by the World Bank and has been officially unveiled by the ministry of rural development in June 2011.

It offers measures for the rural households to increase their income through processes which are sustainable. They are also provided access to financial services. The target for NRLM is to encompass those households which stay below the poverty line and for this 600 districts, 6,000 blocks, 250000 gram panchayats and 600000 villages would be taken into consideration. Sonia Gandhi stated that the NRLM should be brought into operation soon specifically in central and eastern parts of the country.

BJP in favor of passing the Food Security Bill

The BJP wants to advance the monsoon session of the Parliament so that the Food Security and the Land Acquisition Bills can be passed. The BJP Party President Rajnath Singh has put forward the proposal of holding the session of the Parliament ahead of the due date.

He also said it would not be justified if an ordinance is issued on the Food Security Bill. He further stated that this would have passed in the previous session of the Parliament had the Congress agreed to BJP’s demand for the resignation of the Law and Railway Ministers.

Also, Singh did not agree to the fact that BJP was stalling the proceedings of the parliament. He said it was acting as a responsible Opposition.

Government to put more restrictions on gold buying

The government is taking strict measures to control the gold buying which leads to gold imports. This may entail to banning of sale of gold coins by banks.

The April 2013 statistics show there was gold buying amounting to a whopping $7.8 billion compared to $3.1 billion last year. This resulted in the trade account deficit of $17.8 billion which will have a tell-tale effect on the current account deficit, thus posing a great risk on the Indian economy.

Incidentally, the highest percentage was recorded there as well of 6.7%. 830 tons of gold were imported in India in 2012-13.

Camera sensor that is 1000 times more receptive to light

A new camera sensor has been developed which is 1000 times more receptive to light thus enabling crystal clear pictures even in poor lighting. It doesn’t require a flash and is very affordable.

The camera sensor is made up of graphene and has a honeycomb structure. A photo-sensor made up of graphene has been developed for the first time. It traps light via nano-structures which utilizes graphene for this technology. This sensor can be used in simple to satellite cameras. The sensor is said to be highly receptive to natural as well as infrared light and has been developed at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.

IPL Spot Fixing: Updates

'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' poised to be in Rs 100 crore club

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is poised to get into the Rs 100 crore club as it opened to good response in the box-office in the first week. The movie has collected Rs 62.11 crore in its opening weekend.

Taran Adarsh the trade analyst tweeted the breakup of the earnings which stands at on Friday the movie collected 19.45 crore, on Saturday it was 20.16 crore, on Sunday it was 22.5 crore.

Positive response coupled with the star power of Ranbir Kapoor seems to have done the magic. In this movie, Ranbir and Deepika Padukone have come together after a long gap.
