There was a "minor explosion" outside the hotel where President Pranab Mukherjee is put up in Bangladesh. This created a stir among the visiting Indian delegation, but police said it was only a firecracker. Violence continued in Bangladesh with mass protests and killings as Islamist fundamentalists had their tussle with secularists. The explosion occurred on the road juncture outside the Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon, which was first believed to be a cocktail explosion and so got no mention in Bangladeshi media. Indian officials stated "none of the delegation members heard any explosion nor knew of any such incident". Police later on termed it as only a firecracker and that the incident had been blown up by the media. In the meanwhile three people were killed in fresh incidents of violence in Bangladesh and three compartments of a train were set to blaze at Kamalapur Railway Station in the city.With reference to the incident, Venu Rajamony, press secretary to the Indian president, specified in a statement that "life in and around the hotel in Dhaka where the president is staying is completely normal. None of the delegation members heard any explosion nor knew of any such incident." It was also said that bursting of such cocktails were normal feature during strikes and cannot be termed as a bomb. Mukherjee attended a convocation ceremony at the Dhaka University where he was referred as "the first Bengali president of India" and conferred a doctorate of law degree.
Social activist Irom Sharmila, who has been fasting for about 12 years for the removal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), on Monday did not agree to plead guilty for the charges attempting suicide as framed by the Delhi court. She was issued show cause notice for attempting to commit suicide after her refusal to plead guilty.She said that she "loves life and does not want to take my own life". Sharmila did not accept the fact that she attempted to commit suicide at Jantar Mantar in 2006. She stated that she only wanted justice. She further added that if she wanted to commit suicide then she would have died. She had to appear before the court under IPC 309 (attempt to commit suicide) for fasting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. May 22 has been fixed by the court for recording of prosecution's evidence in the case relating to her fast until death which started on Oct 4, 2006 at Jantar Mantar to demand repeal of AFSPA.
Aiming for $300 billion revenue from IT sector by 2020, Nasscom on Monday informed about expanding its focus to include internet, mobile technology and cloud computing.At present revenue from software and services is around $100 billion. The major focus for Nasscom, from just software and services, has been recommended by a panel set up in July last year by Nasscom under the chairmanship of Infosys co-founder N. R. Narayana Murthy. The recommendations of the panel was released to the media in Bangalore by Murthy where he specified that internet, mobile technology, cloud computing and domestic IT market had great scope.So the Nasscom executive council will undergo expansion to encompass these IT segments. Five centres of excellence will be set up in five years.
Ramesh Taurani of TIPS has roped in Akshay Kumar for two films and the Bollywood star will get Rs.80 crore for the projects. The first will release in July first week and the shooting will be done in Cape Town. The movie's co-director is Sajid-Farhad, who were the dialogue writers for 'Bol Bachchan', 'Golmaal Returns', and 'Housefull 2'. This is a comedy film. The second film will release in 2014. The director of the second film is yet to be confirmed. Taurani did not comment on Akshay getting Rs 80 crore as a remuneration. He said he always wanted to work with Akshay as he is one of the most disciplined actors in the industry and an excellent performer.

Australia had declared at 237 for nine.
