Elections for the Lok Sabha will be held from April 7 to May 12, with the results to be declared on May 16. There will be 814 million voters who will be exercising their voting rights. There was an increase of 100 million voters from the number in 2009. In 1952 when the first elections were held there were 176 million voters. With the Lok Sabha polls, Assembly elections will also be held in ODisha, Sikkim and Andhra Pradesh. The polling will happen on 9 days for 543 Lok Sabha seats on April 7, 9, 10, 12, 17, 24 and 30 and May 7 and 12. In this election voters for the first time will be able to opt for "None of the Above". As many as 930000 polling stations will be setup which is 12% increase from what it was in 2009. The model code of conduct is now in vogue with the announcement of the dates. Polling in Maoist infested areas will be held on single day for security reasons. The details are-

Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP leader charged Gujarat CM Narendra Modi of being "anti-common man" and "anti-farmer” when he was detained by the police for a short time. Kejriwal was detained for 30 min in the Radhanpur police station in Gujarat few hours after he started the 4 day tour of Gujarat. This tour of Kejriwal is for the purpose of assessing whether Gujarat is actually a model for development. He spoke to the media and stated that there was no development in Gujarat to which he was waved black flags by the Modi supporters. Kejriwal further added that only beneficiary in Gujarat were the industrialists. He also said that Modi was exaggerating the development story of Gujarat and was hassled as Kejriwal was up for exposing it. As per sources Kejriwal was detained as model code of conduct has come in effect with election schedule being announced. Kejriwal is believed to have told the police that he was not going to address any election rally, his car was not carrying any speaker and there was no reason why he would be detained.
The conviction of Ansal brothers in Uphaar fire tragedy case was upheld in the Supreme Court on Wednesday. What would be the quantum of sentence to Gopal and Sushil Ansal, this decision was deferred by the apex court. The case has now been transferred to a three-judge bench. The court opined that the Ansal brothers were more concerned with minting money than providing safety to the people going to watch movie there. The High Court had curtailed their sentence from 2 to 1 year. The CBI had pressed for more strict punishment for them though. The fire tragedy which happened in 1997 led to death of 59 people and injured 100 people. This happened on the evening of June 13, 1997when fire broke in the parking space and spread in the whole building. There were deaths mainly due to stampede or asphyxiation.
Finance Minister P. Chidambaram raised concerns over the non-performing assets. He directed the public sector banks to recover the bad loans, which is highest in corporate accounts. He further added that credit allocation to the medium industries by the public sector banks has dipped and even to the agricultural sector it was only at satisfactory level. NPAs of these banks increased by 28.5% and stood at Rs 2.36 lakh crore in September 2013 whereas it was Rs 1.83 lakh crore in March, 2013. There was a recovery of bad loans to the tune of Rs 18,933 crore by the banks between April-December.
Ajit Chandila, the Rajasthan Royals cricketer who has been granted bail had asked for more time from the disciplinary committee of BCCI so as to respond to the spot-fixing charges against him. Chandila was among the three players along with Sreesanth and Ankeet Chavan who were arrested by Delhi Police for their supposed role in spot-fixing in Indian Premier League sixth edition held last year. Life ban has been imposed on Sreesanth and Chavan but decision on Chandila is pending still as he was not interrogated yet by the BCCI. The disciplinary committee of the BCCI is led by N Srinivasan and includes other members like Rajeev Shukla and Shivlal Yadav. Chandila has been given time till March 12 to provide his final reply.

Google has unveiled indoor maps in India. This will enable the users to see specific locations inside museums, malls and other venues. This is one of the components of the Google Maps and users in US, Japan, Singapore, the Netherlands and Hong Kong are already accessing it. This will be helpful for the users to find out that particular outlet in a huge shopping mall or which gallery is there in which section of the museum and so on. All this will be available with some swipes. Right now there are 75 venues which have been mapped in 22 different cities of India and the names include Ambience Mall in Gurgaon ,Select City Walk in Delhi, Salar jung museum in Hyderabad, National Gallery of Modern Art in Delhi, . The venues are there in the metros as well as Bhopal, Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Jaipur, Ludhiana, Dehradun, Lucknow, Kochi and Moradabad.
