Indian Americans are happy with the re-election of President Barack Obama as they think his administration has done what was required and his win is good both for the community and India.They feel that the Asian American community, specially Indian Americans, got a good presence in his administration as political appointees. The community also hope for increased cooperation in defense, science and technology, trade and fighting terrorism. Obama's endorsement of India as a permanent member of the UN Security Council was also viewed as a positive step. His initiatives like the Dream Act for the immigrant children and Obama healthcare law were well appreciated
Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Prasad on Wednesday stated that the security of railway tracks in the Kashmir Valley posed immense challenge for the authorities, as there was the fear of militants targeting them. He stated that the responsibilities would increase in the future when railway service would reach to other parts of the state and additional personnel as well as infrastructure would be necessary for deployment on the tracks. The railway at present extends up to Udhampur, 70 km north of Jammu with several small and big bridges besides 20 tunnels.These are under constant militants threat and hence have to be manned intensively.
Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said on Wednesday that with the re-election of President Barack Obama business and economic ties between India and the US would be strengthened.India Inc has also welcomed Obama's re-election as it is a positive factor for the India-US strategic and economic partnership which was crafted by the Obama administration. India would look forward to strengthening cooperation in higher education,defense and homeland security, agriculture and nuclear cooperation.Welcoming Obama's re-election, Adi Godrej, president of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), said: "Indian industry is hopeful that both countries will continue to strengthen economic ties by lowering barriers to trade and investment, and fostering a climate that is conducive to the growth of businesses on both sides. Anand Mahindra, chairman of Mahindra & Mahindra tweeted,"The second term of a US President is the more fascinating one. With politicking out of the way, it's time to build the real legacy."
Public sector lender UCO Bank stated that there was a 55 percent slump in its net profit to Rs.103.71 crore for the quarter which ended Sep 30 from Rs.230.75 crore for the same period last year. UCO Bank chairman and managing director Arun Kaul stated that the bank kept aside Rs.435 crore as provisioning towards non-performing assets during the period under review, in comparison to Rs.244 crore during same period last year.A dip to the tune of Rs.1,500 crore in the quarter happened of which Rs.820 crore came from one group whose name was not revealed.Total income increased from Rs.3,730.79 crore for the second quarter in the financial year to Rs.4408.55 crore for the corresponding period last fiscal.Percentage of gross non-performing assets to advances during the period rose to 4.88 percent (from 3.64 percent), while net non-performing assets went up to 2.94 percent (from 2.11 percent).The increase in bad assets affected the bank's profitability, bringing down the net interest margin to 2.24 percent (2.84 percent).
Kamal Haasan said his upcoming bilingual action-thriller "Vishwaroopam" will not hurt the sentiments of any community as it was neither about terrorism nor Islam. The story revolves around waradversities. Kamalhas written and directed "Vishwaroopam" and is the co-producer of the film along with PVP cinemas.The film has music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and stars Rahul Bose, Andrea Jeremiah, Pooja Kumar and Jaideep Ahlawat in lead roles. The Hindi version of the movie is titled "Vishwaroop".
India's tennis doubles duo of Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna recovered from their first round loss defeating the Swedish-Romanian combine of Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau 6-3, 5-7, 10-5 in a Group B match at London on Wednesday. This has kept alive their semi-final hopes of the ATP Tour Finals.This was their first ever win over Lindstedt and Tecau, who were winners of ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events in Madrid and Cincinnati this year.The Indians lost their first match to Wimbledon champions Jonathan Marray and Frederik Nielsen but came to form on Wednesday.

President Pranab Mukherjee will be launching the latest version of Amrita University's e-Learning platform A-VIEW - Amrita Virtual Interactive E-Learning World - in New Delhi on Sunday, November 11.The Amrita University which was founded by Mata Amritananda Mayi's E-learning Research Lab, has come out with the mobile version of A-VIEW for the new version of Aakash tablet.It is part of a collaborative project under "Talk to a Teacher".This runs on the Aakash tablet and would connect over 14,000 teachers across 240 remote centres who would attend the launch as part of the workshop on Aakash by IIT Bombay.The vision is to connect the needy students and qualified, experienced teachers.
