At least 15 members of Congress and TDP were disqualified by the speaker of the Andhra Pradesh legislative assembly as they violated party whips.
The two parties had moved a petition and the speaker acted on the same. Nine members are of Congress and six of TDP. The disqualification was done under Rule 2(1)(b) of the Tenth Schedule of the constitution as they voted against the party whip.
With this, the Congress is reduced to 146 members in the 294 members house but there is no danger to the government as 140 members are required and as the polling will be in less than a year no by-election may happen for the seats which get vacant. TDP had also asked for the disqualification of nine of its members, and has criticized the speaker for not disqualifying the remaining three.
For the first time, L.K. Advani will not attend BJP's national executive meeting. He has cited ill health as the reason for it.
The BJP has dismissed the speculation where it is being said that there may be discontent due to increased preference being given to Narendra Modi for making him the head of the party's campaign committee for the next Lok Sabha election in 2014. A chartered plane was kept ready to fly him to the venue in Goa but Advani could not make it.
In fact, other party leaders like Shatrughan Sinha, Jaswant Singh and Uma Bharti have also skipped the meet all for health reasons. The three day meet kick started from June 7. The BJP think tank has something to ponder over with this development.
The government must be pleased with the revenue collection which is much beyond its expectations.
The collection the period from April-May this year saw a rise of more than 21% and stood at Rs 63,252 crore compared to Rs 52,231 crore in the corresponding period last year.
The corporate taxes revenue was 27,957 crore compared to Rs 24,329 crore in the previous year, that is a spike of 15%. The personal tax revenue showed growth of 27%, and was Rs 34,805 crore compared to Rs 27,343 crore last year. Only the net direct tax showed a lesser growth pattern of only 6% that is Rs 37,596 crore as against Rs 35,322 crore in the previous year.
Indian shuttler K. Srikanth on Saturday reached the final of the Thailand Grand Prix Gold badminton tournament after posting an easy straight-game win in the men’s singles event over Thammasin Sitthikom, who was the favorite there in Bangkok at the Nimitbutr National Stadium.
Srikanth who is 13 seed, required 43 minutes to etch a 21-14 21-18 win. Now, he will meet the winner of the next semi-final among Boonsak Ponsana and Wisnu Yuli Prasetyo.
People had much expectations from Yamla Pagla Deewana 2, the sequel to the movie with the same name but it seems that while the first film could win hearts this one could not.
In fact, riding on the hype and the much publicized promos, the movie seems to have not struck the right chord as was expected after the emotional connect the father and sons trio did in Apne. It is being said that the script fails to impress and mindless comedy fails to impress anyone.
Sangeeth Sivan, the filmmaker had earlier stated that the critics should desist from reviewing the movie if they don't like over-the-top comedy.
