The women journalists were in their best silks, when they visited the Rashtrapati Bhawan to interact with the President on the occasion of International Women's Day. President Pranab Mukherjee interacted with women journalists of all ages at the Ashoka Hall, which was originally the ballroom of the British era viceroys and is now used for ceremonial functions. The women were seen jostling for both photographs and autographs even as the president asked them to have some tea. A few reporters dug into the high tea laid out in the Banquet Hall, while others were admiring the ceiling of the Ashoka Hall, which has an equestrian portrait of Fateh Ali Shah, the second of the seven Qajar rulers of Persia, hunting with his 21 sons.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee claimed that the next general elections will be held in the next two to three months, instead of 2014. The Trinamool Congress chief also claimed that her party would regain the railway portfolio after the elections. "As a railway minister I did almost all for Bengal. And for the small amount of work which is still to be done? I will also finish that. This is a matter of only two to three months as the next Lok Sabha elections will occur then," said Banerjee while speaking at an event to mark the International Women's Day. She hinted that in the next general elections, the Trinamool would secure enough seats and hold the railway portfolio in the government.
The first 20 copies of Yuvraj Singh's memoir "The Test of My Life", which chronicles the cricketer's battle against cancer following the 2011 World Cup will go up for bid on Collectabillia.com's newly launched auction portal at 9.00 a.m. on March 9, 2013. Collectabillia along with Random House, is offering fans an opportunity to own the first 20 autographed copies before the book hits the stands. The bids open at Rs.5,000 and the limited edition books will include a handwritten letter by the Arjuna Awardee and proceeds raised from the week-long auction will be donated to the YouWeCan Foundation.
The Dhamra Port in Odisha said that it had reached a milestone handling 10 million tonnes of dry bulk cargo in the fiscal year 2012-13 against over five million tonnes handled during the previous year. There has been over 60 % increase in total imports of coal and limestone and projected total handling of the port for the current fiscal was 11.2 million tones. The port is a 50:50 joint-venture between Larsen and Toubro and Tata Steel. It began its operations on May 6, 2011 and crossed 8 million tonnes of imports in the current fiscal year which is the highest by any Indian port in only the 2nd year of its operations. The projected target for the port in the fiscal year 2013-14 has been set for 18 million tones.
A benchmark index for Indian equities markets was trading more than half a percent up in the late afternoon trade, as oil and gas, bank and consumer durables stocks gained. Nevertheless, information technology (IT) and media, entertainment and technology (TECk) and automobile scrips declined. The 30-scrip Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 19,478.67 points, was ruling at 19,535.17 points, up 121.63 points or 0.63 percent from its previous close at 19,413.54 points. The Sensex touched an intra-day high of 19,581.95 points and a low of 19,477.61 points. The midcap index was up 26.05 points, while the smallcap index was 30.40 points higher.

The Indian Media and Entertainment (M&E) industry is estimated to touch $17 billion - a growth of 11.8 % in 2013, as per the findings of the FICCI-KPMG Media and Entertainment 2013 report. The report attributes the industry's growth to digitization, continued growth of regional media, film sector, fast increasing new media businesses and upcoming elections. The industry grew from Rs.728 billion in 2011 to Rs.820 billion in 2012, registering an overall growth of 12.6 %. It also projects the sector to grow at a healthy Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 15.2 % to reach Rs.1661 billion by 2017.
Former Mrs. India International Richa Sharma was named global brand ambassador of the pageant, which will kick off this year with the interview round in the US' Atlanta city on May 17. Richa Sharma, Mrs. India International 2011, said "it really feels great to be made a part of a show in which one was a contestant two years back". The Pageant director Adrita Khanna said applications from over 250 women have been received for the coming edition and said the organizers were considering holding the grand finale of the 2014 chapter of the event in Kolkata.
