Ranbaxy Laboratories, the biggest drug maker in India is facing lots of regulatory issues. The US Food and Drug Administrator has updated its website that Ranbaxy’s 20 mg tablet was found in the sealed bottle of 10 mg. Owing to this Ranbaxy has recalled the lot of 64,000 bottles from US containing the generic version of a cholesterol-lowering drug, Lipitor. Majority of Ranbaxy is owned by Daiichi Sankyo of Japan. But the company is saying that it has not received any product complaint from the customer so far. The batch has been recalled from the retail stores. The company is taking the step of recalling medicine as a precaution and by considering the safety of patients. The company had earlier faced challenges when its domestic units were barred from sending any drug and ingredient to the US. The FDA categorized the recall of Liptor by Ranbaxy as Class II. This means that flawed drug has the least chances of severe undesirable consequences or death. The drug has been recalled for the third time. In November 2012 Ranbaxy had recalled the cholesterol lowering drug because it was found contaminated with tiny glass particles. The company wanted to fix the issues which led to the recall and so it stopped manufacturing the drug. In January 2014 Ranbaxy voluntarily recalled two lots of atorvastatin calcium tablets. The FDA took regulatory action against Ranbaxy and banned it from sending any pharmaceutical ingredient made at its Toansa plant in Punjab because of flaws in the manufacturing process.
