Tripura continued to experience Nature’s wrath as cyclonic storms along with thunder and lightning took lives of seven people. This included 5 women. Twenty others were injured.
This was the fifth day of the inclement weather where thunder and lightning have not only resulted in uprooting of trees, but also of disruption of electricity supply and telecommunication services as electrical poles and telephone lines have been damaged. The transport network was also seriously affected.
On top of that, there was water logging and flooding in the low-lying areas. The Met office has predicted more showers accompanied by cyclonic storms in the next 48 hours. Flights on the Agartala-Kolkata-Guwahati-Delhi routes have been affected as well. The government has announced Rs.1,000 to Rs.10,000 as an immediate relief measure.
There is good news for those who intend to buy a car as General Motors unveiled Enjoy, its new multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).
What is going to attract the people to buy this vehicle is the introductory price as it comes at Rs.5.49-6.99 lakh for the petrol variant while the diesel version is priced at Rs.6.99-7.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Enjoy is likely to pose a competition to Ertiga (Maruti Suzuki), Innova (Toyota) and Xylo (Mahindra). It will have an edge in pricing as the Xylo and Innova comes for Rs 9 Lakh onwards. General Motors has been able to pull the price down as it went for extenive localization of the components - upto 60%.
The petrol version has a four-cylinder 1.4 litre engine with a capacity of 104 PS at the rate of 6,000 rotations per minute. The diesel variant comes with a 1.3 litre engine with 77.5 PS at the rate of 4,400 rpm. It was manufactured at Talegaon plant in Maharashtra.

Another player who reached into the top 50 players and that too for the first time was K. Srikkanth who went up five positions to secure a rank of 47.
Dharmendra, the yesteryear superstar, feels that, at present, it is more difficult to promote movies rather than make it.
He said there was intense pressure on the makers to promote the films in a suitable manner so that it grabs eyeballs.
Dharmendra, in his five decade career, did 250 films and gave many hits.
He will now be seen with his sons in Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 for which the promotional campaign is in progress.
Science and Technology
Nokia, with an eye to capture the market for low range smartphones, has launched the Nokia Asha 501. This is priced at Rs 5300 and would run on the Asha operating system, which has been remodeled.
The device has a 3-inch screen and has 4GB storage in microSD card. The downside is that at present it will support only 2G and Wifi networks and the 3G version will be released later on. But with a price tag like that and a 3.2 mp camera, the users have less to complain. This comes in the wake of cheaper Android devices taking over the market resulting in lesser demand for the Asha series phones.
