Mobile service providers have been directed by the Election Commission for not sending the bulk political SMS service 48 hours before the Assembly election. The decision has been taken so that parties do not influence voters at last minute to get votes and taken to make sure that the Model Code of Conduct is not violated. Special Chief Electoral Officer Shurbir Singh said that to check the content of messages an officer of Delhi Police Special Cell has been chosen as nodal officer. The officer will make sure that the Model Code of Conduct is properly followed and not violated. The Election Commission must be informed by the operators for any kind of bulk SMS booking by the parties as this cost will then added to the total expenditure of the party or party candidate. The Commission has also conducted a meeting in this regard with all main mobile service providers and asked not to issue SIM without proper verification. It has been noticed that sale of SIM goes high at the time of elections. Then the SIMs bought on fake identities are used for anti-social purposes and for intimidating other. Also service provider must ensure that pre-activated SIM cards are not sold. In case such an activity is found then the dealer or vendor as well as the company have to face the strict action.
Unlisted companies can now directly list on overseas stock exchanges to raise funds. This move will assist India having high current account deficit. At present these unlisted companies cannot list directly in overseas markets without previous or simultaneous listing in Indian markets. This has been said by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in its notification. But their listing on the foreign stock exchange has been limited to exchanges in International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO)/ Financial Action Task Force (FATF) compliant jurisdictions or those jurisdictions with which SEBI has signed two-sided agreements. The funds raised in this manner can be used for decreasing outstanding overseas debt or to carry out acquisitions there. In case the funds raised abroad are not utilized there then this fund should be sent back to India within 15 days and must be parked with the pre-defined banks. This has been said by RBI. For any downstream investment, instruction laid down must be followed by the company. Government has prescribed the eligibility criteria for raising funds through ADRs/GDRs. The Finance Ministry had earlier said that this scheme will be implemented on a pilot basis with duration of two years. Main objective of the government is to lower down the CAD to below USD 60 billion this fiscal which went up $88.2 billion in the last financial year. High CAD and other global factors have severally affected the Rupee vs dollar value. This scheme will put into practice after the government’s notification.
Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has made an extravagant plan to honour Sachin Tendulkar by showering 199 kg rose petals from skies by helicopter. But this plan came to an end with the defeat of West Indies within three days in the first of the two-match Test series at the Eden Gardens on Friday (November 8). Tendulkar played his 199th Test here. He is going to play his last 200th match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai (14th to 18th November). The initial plan was later changed in which CAB was to shower rose petals either on the fourth or fifth day, after the match ended. Helicopter was also booked and the required permissions were taken from the air traffic control (ATC) for Saturday and Sunday. But as the match ended quite dramatically today so no such thing had happened. CAB joint secretary Subir Ganguly said that they had only an hours time to arrange everything. It was not possible to take written permission from the ATC for aircraft and the flowers in such a short time span. On the day of opening, the stadium was only half full and the number of audience dropped further in the next two days. It seemed that everything was not planned properly.
