Delhi gangrape convicts will be sentenced on Friday. Today the process of arguments of prosecution and the defence was completed. Prosecution has pressed for death penalty as it was a rarest of the rare crime.
The 6 men had not only raped the 23 year old young woman but had also brutally assaulted her by pulling out her internal organs by hand and iron rod. She was then left without clothes in a pool of blood on the road to die along with her friend who was also brutally beaten.
The convicts will attract the minimum sentence of life imprisonment. Defense counsel of one of the four accused who is 19 years old requested for mercy considering the fact that he was young and should be given opportunity to reform. The defense also contested that the crime happened at the spur of the moment and was not planned.
The Mars orbiter, the spacecraft for India’s maiden Mars mission has been built. This would be launched anytime between October 21 to November 19 from Sriharikota. It will have a rocket with 5 instruments to carry on number of experiments while it circles Mars. The cost incurred to ISRO for making this was Rs. 450 crore, Rs. 150 crore was for the spacecraft, the rocket was built at Rs.110 crore, Rs. 190 crore was the expenditure for augmenting the ground stations for the operation. This spacecraft has been constructed in only 12 months and would circle Mars for six months at a distance of 375 km being the closes and 80,000 km when it is farthest in an elliptical orbit. The spacecraft which weighs 1,340 kg at lift-off will be transported to the spaceport on September 27 after it has been configured and tested so that it can be integrated with the 350-tonne polar satellite launch vehicle.
Rupee has been gaining and had almost reached the mark below 63 against dollar. This helped in Sensex ending flat after slumping by more than 200 points. Rupee has been gaining for 5th day in a row and reached 63.07 per dollar, that is an increase of 1% compared to Tuesday's close at 63.84. At 4 p.m., the rupee was trading at 63.55 per dollar.
Sensex traded flat with a increase of only 0.36%. Profit booking was specified the reason as yesterday Sensex had gained 700 points largest in 4 years. It started at 19,999.77 points, provisionally closed at 19,997.45. Nifty or the NSE got a gain of 16.40 points and ended at 5,913.15 points.
Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan and Gautam Gambhir, the regulars in the Test Team till 2011 have got a chance to revive their positions again as they have been selected for the India ‘A’ squad for the forthcoming series against West Indies ‘A’. They will be looking into capitalizing this chance. Gambhir will be looking into making his position as a reserve opener. Sehwag will look for repeat performance of what he did in 2008 after he was dropped when India faced a humiliating defeat in the World Cup. Zaheer Khan’s place has been taken over by Ishant Sharma so it is pretty tough for him to get headway into the national team. Yuvraj is trying to connect with his previous hard hitting form after his comeback whereas in the team the hard hitters like Ravindra Jadeja, Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik have filled that space. In all this what is good is that the competition will keep everyone on toes and no player can take his position for granted.
Film promotions are a big thing these days and it seems everyone thinks of an innovative and a realistic way to promote their movies. Karan Johar whose production "Gori Tere Pyaar Mein" is up for release has stated that the pair of Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor looked so good on the screen he wished they were married in the real life too. He joked as well that nothing was impossible. Kareena took this in good humour and said then what would happen of Saif? The duo Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor have earlier come together in the movie “Ek Main Aur Ek Tu”.
Science and Technology
Apple launched two new iPhones late night on Tuesday as per Indian Standard Time. The iPhone 5s which succeeds iPhone 5 is packed with number of features like:
- A7 processor
- 64-bit chip first time in a smartphone
- Enhanced camera
- Fingerprint-scanner or Touch ID
Along with this Apple also launched iPhone 5c which is dubbed as a cheaper version but does not seem as cheap as it is priced at $549 and will pinch the pockets more here in India with it coming anywhere for around Rs 35000. The hardware specifications are good and zany colours may seem attractive but the main factor, price is going to disappoint people. What is more is that there is only a difference of $100 between the models which does not seem a good strategy at the onset. It seems affordable iPhone will be a distant dream and Android phone will rule the roost in this segment.
