IDBI Bank Ltd. has said that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has not probed them over a loan given to Kingfisher Airlines Ltd. According to a spokesperson of the agency, the CBI had earlier launched a probe against both the companies over the loan. As per media reports, the bank said that the earlier enquiry by CBI was initiated against the borrower and not the bank. The bank said that it will give full assistance to CBI during further enquiries.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi has attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating that the communal violence in the country has been rising since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power. Sonia, while addressing the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee in Thiruvananthapuram said that the primary agenda of the party is to divide people. She added that the incidents of communal violence are intentionally engineered and the party is in a hurry to divide the people of the country.
Jet Airways has announced that it will be a single-brand airline from now on. During a press conference, the CEO Designate of Jet Airways, Cramer Ball declared that although the airline has a strong name in the Indian market, the various products that it offers generally confuse the customers. Naresh Goyal, Jet Airways Chairman said that they will not be selling the AOP model known as JetLite, but will no longer be operating under this name. He also added that it will operate ATRs under one brand only.

During its fourth flash sale, Xiaomi sold its 20,000 handsets in just a few seconds. This was the largest lot that the company had offered to be sold on Flipkart. As per reports, there are around 1,00,000 people who have registered to buy the Mi3 device. Xiaomi has sold 55,000 Mi3 handsets in the country through Flipkart so far.
The Supreme Court has rejected to hold a hearing on a petition which seeks directions to the government to search and update details about the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s mysterious disappearance. The apex court bench headed by Chief Justice R. M. Lodha rejected the petition and has asked the PIL petitioner M.L. Sharma to file an application for an immediate hearing in this matter. Sharma told the court that the government should make the report public which has the details about the inquiry done by the committee in this matter. He said that this report should be released before Netaji is honoured with the Bharat Ratna award on 16 August.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs will be implementing various welfare schemes in the coming months for the yesteryears national sportspersons. Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of State and Independent Charge for Sports and Youth Affairs said a scheme ‘National Welfare Fund for Sportspersons’ will be implemented to offer financial assistance to yesteryears sportspersons with less than Rs. 2 lakh annual income. Monthly pension for former Olympians and national players will also be fixed.

Oppo India has launched a mini version of its N1 smartphone in the Indian market. The new phone is priced at Rs. 26,990 and will be available in the market later this week. The specifications of the phone include 13MP camera, Android 4.3 operating system and 5-inch HD screen. It has a 16GB onboard memory which can be expandable via a microSD card. Opp had launched its first smartphone in India in January this year followed by R1.
The list of nominees for the Drona awards has been finalised for their excellent contribution in coaching and sports. The list includes the names of veteran sportspersons such as boxing coach Ganapathy Manoharan and athletics coach N. Lingappa. For the Dhyan Chand lifetime achievement award, few names have been short listed including Asian Games gold medallist Zeeshan Ali and Gurnail Singh, member of the Moscow Olympics gold-winning hockey team. The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and Arjuna awardees will be finalised today.
The newly appointed BJP President Amit Shah is likely to announce a new team of office bearers soon. According to the party sources, the team under Shah will be disclosed ahead of assembly elections in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir. It is speculated that the team will have many young faces including women. The prominent names which are doing rounds to get a place in Shah’s team include Ram Madhav, Varun Gandhi, Capt. Abhimanyu and Rajiv Pratap Rudy.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Ladakh on Tuesday. Modi is on a visit for the launch of two hydro-power projects and a 330km Leh-Srinagar transmission line. The transmission line will be connecting the Ladakh region and the Northern grid of the country which will resolve the problems of electricity in Leh and Kargil regions. Modi will be inaugurating the Nimoo Bazgo project in Leh district and Chutak hydro- electric power project in Kargil. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and N.N. Vohra are scheduled to receive Modi.
