Twitter-friendly Narendra Modi becomes one of the most followed personalities at Twitter with over 10 million followers. With the present tally of followers, he jumps ahead of USA’s Republican politician Mitt Romney but still lags behind the US President Barack Obama and Pope Fransis. Information of NaMo reaching 10 million followers was made public by Twitter through issuance of a statement. The statement was said that last year NaMo’s Lok Sabha victory tweet was the most retweeted tweet. It is learnt that many followers of Narendra Modi have created a temple in Gujarat’s Kotharia village to worship NaMo.

ZTE has launched its new economy-class smartphone ZTE N919D. It is priced at Rs. 6,999 and will be available exclusively on eBay. ZTE India’s Mobile Business Head, Sudhir Gaur, has said that his company has brought this new mobile handset keeping the needs of Indian customers in mind so that they get best possible mobility experience. It supports GSM and CDMA EVDO technologies. ZTE N919D runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS and comes with FWVGA display (854 x 480 pixels) of 5 inches, Quad Core processor (1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon), 1GB RAM, 8MP rear camera, and other features.
Management Board of India Cements, led by N Srinivasan - President-in-exile of BCCI, has approved IPL team CSK’s franchise rights transfer to Chennai Super Kings Cricket Ltd., wholly-owned subsidiary of India Cements. This information is revealed by Srinivasan himself to the media. However, Srinivasan did not reveal who will be at the helm of affairs at Chennai Super Kings Cricket Ltd. When asked about the Supreme Court order, barring him from contesting BCCI election till he gives up IPL team’s ownership, President-in-exile of BCCI refused to comment.
Special Investigation Team of Delhi Police is all set to inquire Congress MP Shashi Tharoor today as a standard procedure of investigation of Sunanda Pushkar murder case. It is learnt that SIT will also inquire the staffs of Shashi Tharoor too. Analysts believe that this interrogation is carried forward after Shiv Menon, son of Late Sunanda Pushkar, was interrogated by SIT a few days back. BS Bassi, Delhi Police Commissioner, told media that the interrogation was delayed because DCP (South) was busy in poll counting and related activities.
Lawyer of the woman professional who was raped by an Uber Driver in Delhi said that the newly implemented safety measures of Uber are far less than the actual requirements of the passengers. Douglas Wigdor, well known New York attorney, said today that just adding ride share notification as well as panic button in the Uber application is not even close to providing proper security to the passengers. He went on to call it a mere marketing ploy of Uber India.
Arvind Kejriwal, would-be Chief Minister of Delhi, has refused the Z-Plus category security cover provided by Delhi Police, just after his party won 67 seats out of 70 seats. Ashutosh, leader of Aam Aadmi party, has told media that AK is not going to accept the Z-Plus security cover. He also said that if Delhi Police emphasises upon providing Z-Plus security then they have to give proper reason for that and also tell what the extent of threat perception is there against Arvind Kejriwal that this kind of security cover got necessitated.
Nitish Kumar yesterday met President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, and told him that he has a support of 130 MLAs to stake claim of the Bihar government. Mukherjee assured Nitish and the other delegates to look into the matter. Nitish Kumar also stressed on the fact that the delay in formation of the government may lead to horse-trading and thereby asked President to not wait for the Budget session as the budget should be placed by the new government. He also accused BJP of creating trouble in Bihar.
Sources reveal that Union Government is all set to form SIT to probe anti-Sikh riots of 1984. Union Government has been contemplating the idea after Narendra Modi government was sworn in. Official sources indicate that the government initiated the process of forming Special Investigation Team after former Supreme Court Judge Justice (retired) GP Mathur-led committee, appointed by the Home Ministry a week back, submitted a report urging the formation of SIT to make a fresh probe in infamous Sikh-riot case.
The CM-designate of Delhi Assembly, Arvind Kejriwal, is scheduled to meet the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. Sources within AAP reveal that he is going to invite NaMo for the swearing-in ceremony, to be held on February 14. Kejriwal also met the President of India Pranab Mukherjee and other important Union Ministers - Rajnath Singh and Venkaiah Naidu - yesterday. The President has gifted him - 'Constitution of India' and a book written by Mukherjee, ‘Thoughts and Reflections'. Sources have revealed that a late night meeting of AAP’s Political Affairs Committee has chosen Manish Sisodia as a would-be Deputy-CM of Delhi.
Mahindra and Mahindra group is all set to buy 25 to 30 per cent stake of the largest private shipyard of India, Pipavav Defence, which is based in Gujarat. The management board of Pipavav Defence is scheduled to meet tomorrow for approving the transaction. As revealed by a banker, privy to the deal, current promoters of the company, Gandhis and Mahindras, will hold equal share in Pipavav Defence. Making an open offer to the shareholders is also on the cards. At BSE Sensex yesterday the stock of Pipavav Defence closed at Rs. 64, a jump of 16 per cent. At 9:28 am IST today, the stock was trading at Rs. 69.70, an increase of 9.20 per cent.
21st Century Fox’s unit, Star India, has acquired MAA Television Network Ltd.’s entire broadcast business. Though official amount of the deal was not disclosed by either parties, sources reveal that the deal size could be anywhere around Rs. 2,500 crore. Available reports claim that MAA TV promoters invested around Rs. 130 crore in the network, which consists four Telugu entertainment channels including MAA General Entertainment, MAA Cinema, MAA Music, and MAA Gold. After this acquisition, STAR made its foray in the second largest regional television market in India. Uday Shankar, CEO of Star India, said that this vital acquisition will help its advertisers target a critical market.
State Bank of India is all set to raise additional capital to the tune of Rs. 12,000 crore through issuance of fresh stocks to the investors. For making the issue successful, the largest lender in terms of assets, SBI, has appointed nine arrangers – Bank of America, JM Financial, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, SBI Capital Markets, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Axis Bank, and ICICI Securities. Among these nine companies, there are four international marketing coordinators including BOA, Barclays, Goldman Sachs, and Citigroup. Sources reveal that the stock sale programme will be over within the current financial year.
