Telegram service ends

The telegram service, a history in itself, ended at 11:45 pm. The last telegram was delivered to Rahul Gandhi. Rs 68,837 was the revenue collected on the last day as the country bid farewell to a service which brought so many emotions among people for generations.

Before the telegram was read, we used to dread if there is a bad news. When it brought good news, the custom was to give something to the postman, its harbinger. 2197 telegrams were booked on Sunday and, for 1,329 telegrams, there was computer billing while via phone.

Many cricketers have got bad name of cricket: Bishan Singh Bedi

Bishan Singh Bedi has said that many cricketers have brought bad name to the game which should be based on honesty and integrity. He was there speaking on whether there was a credibility crisis in the game of cricket.

He said the process of the game remains the same but what has changed is the way it is handled now. He has never supported IPL and he said that this form of the game was doing more harm than good to cricket. According to him, a good cricketer is one who learns and the game should be above all.

Petrol prices increase by Rs 1.55 per litre

Petrol will cost Rs.1.55 per litre more, exclusive of state taxes, from midnight on Sunday. The reason given is again declining rupee value which reached Rs.60.03 against the dollar and rise of prices of crude oil in international markets that is from $115.29 to $117.19 a barrel.

In two weeks, this is the 2nd time prices have increased and this is the 4th hike in two months. The prices were modified last on June 29 when the prices increased by Rs.1.82 per litre, excluding taxes. Diesel prices remain the same. The effective price in different metros will be:

  • Delhi- Rs 70.44 per litre
  • Mumbai- Rs.75.79 per litre
  • Kolkata- Rs.75.84 per litre
  • Chennai- Rs.71.65 per litre
Modi slams the Congress

Narendra Modi launched a verbal attack against the Congress on different issues. He said whenever the Congress fails in implementing anything it hides behind the cover of secularism so that it is not countered on real issues.

He added that the Congress has gone back on its promise made 35 years ago of removing poverty and now has openly claimed they cannot remove it. The passing of the food bill ordinance was also criticized and Modi said that the Congress did not have faith in its allies so did not have a parliament session for passing the bill.

Smart Pen which recognizes your spelling error and vibrates

Now there is a smart pen developed in Germany which will let you know about your error with gentle vibration when you write spell wrongly or write illegibly.

This pen known as Lernstift has a motion sensor, a Linux computer and a WiFi chip. With this, the phone is able to determine when you write incorrectly. There is a calligraphy mode for illegible handwriting, which follows the pattern of movement. Then there is the orthography mode for incorrect spelling detection where the words are compared with the inbuilt database.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag does RS 8.5 crore of business on first day

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, has done a brisk business on the opening day grossing Rs. 8.5 crore on its opening day.

Farhan Akhtar portrays the role of the Flying Sikh in this biopic. The paid preview of this is said to have earned revenue of Rs. 1.5 crore. The movie hit 1500 screens in India and got overwhelming response in the evening shows.

Akhtar has been well appreciated for the role and Sonam Kapoor and Divya Dutta are also said to impress everyone with their performance. People have been waiting for this movie for long.
