Sawana Lakra, a state Congress legislator has been given life imprisonment by a Jharkhand court after he was convicted on murder charges.
Lakra was convicted for abduction and murder of Avinash Tiwari who was allegedly in love with Lakra’s niece.
Avinash’s body was found in the Khuti district on April 27 in 2011. Avinash, who stayed in Garwah district, was missing since April 24. His father complained that his son was kidnapped by Lakra’s men.
Police got proof during its investigation that the legislator was behind the murder and abduction. In this case the legislator, his bodyguard, driver and another person were found accused in this case and all were awarded life term.
Lakra has stated to the media that he would move to a higher court for this.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh came to Guwahati in Assam today to file his nominations for the Rajya Sabha for the 4th term which ends on June 14.
When the PM arrived, there were protests by some groups who hoisted black flags stating that as promised development had not taken place in Assam. There was also media outrage when it was not allowed to do coverage.
The PM, after landing, went straight to the state assembly. He has been representing the state in the Rajya Sabha since 1991 when he was the Union Finance Minister and was offered the seat by Hiteshwar Saikia after it fell vacant.
The last day of the nomination is May 20. The scrutiny happens the next day and the polls, if required, will be held on May 30. Manmohan Singh is most likely to get the seat as Congress and his allies have 94 seats of 126 members in the assembly.
Sanjay Dutt suddenly withdrew his plea for surrendering in Pune’s Yerwada jail and would now do so at a special TADA court in Mumbai. His request was made earlier keeping in mind the threats to his life by fundamentalist groups if he surrendered in Mumbai.
It was also said that media’s glare was on him last time, and he was followed till 120 km. So, to avoid all this, he wanted to surrender in Pune’s jail, but now with the withdrawal of his request no one has a clue why he did so.
Sanjay Dutt will be surrendering on Thursday at 4 pm.

AAP has charged the Law Minister of showing undue favors to Vodafone by giving his approval to it to settle its tax disputes out of court.
AAP stated that Sibal reversed the decision of the former Law Minister Ashwini Kumar and allowed the UK telecom giant to settle tax disputes worth Rs 11,217 crore out of court.
Arvind Kejriwal the AAP leader said this undue favor was shown as Sibal’s son Amit Sibal was the counsel of Hutchinson Telecommunications International.
The tax liability came up when the Hutchinson got a capital gain of Rs 50,000 crore by selling its telecom business to Vodafone in 2007.

At the same time BBM will be now available on other platforms like the iOS and Android which will add more users to the 60 million BBM users base now.
Q5, which is the third device to operate on Blackberry 10 platform, will be launched in Asia, Europe, Middle East and Africa.
