Amid high media drama and public frenzy, Sanjay Dutt today surrendered for another 42-month jail term.
His story now runs much like a Bollywood movie or maybe more. Sanjay Dutt, dressed in a white kurta, pyjama and tilak on the forehead went to the special TADA court for completing the formalities for his surrender, though not before being mobbed by the crowd and getting hurt on his chest.
In fact, he was not even able to move out of his vehicle till director Mahesh Bhatt asked the people to clear the way for him. He was then taken to the high security Arthur Road Central jail from where he would be taken to one of the jails in Pune, Nashik or Nagpur.
The police stated he is most likely to be taken to Yerwada jail in Pune. Incidentally, his lawyers have requested that he be allowed to have home-cooked food, mattresses, electronic cigarettes, medicines and the facility to meet his family and legal advisors, but the CBI had said he will be treated as any other convict would.
Afghanistan’s President Hamid Karzai will come on a three day’s official visit to India on May 20.
He will have discussions on various matters and is most likely to have a discussion on Afghanistan’s security situation in the event of the US troops withdrawing from the area. Karzai will ask for more army assistance for handling the terrorist groups, it was revealed by the Afghanistan ambassador.
The Afghan President will have a meeting with President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, over issues of mutual interest.
Karzai will also be awarded an honorary degree by the President at Lovely Professional University in Jalandhar, Punjab.
Double Digit returns have been posted by the New Pension Scheme (NPS) in 2012-13.
In this financial year, 8.7% interest was fixed for deposits under Public Provident Fund (PPF) and 8.5% rate of interest for 2012-13 for Employees Provident Fund (EPF).
NPS is being pegged as the most cost-effective retirement instrument which accrues high returns. The Private Corporate Debt registered 14.19% returns while the Government scheme recorded 13.52%.
In the Swavlamban scheme, government gives Rs 1,000 in a year to each NPS account. The average annual return for this scheme is at 13.40%. Returns, which were gained from the employee scheme for state government was 13%, while the ones for central government were 12.39%.
50 lakh subscribers have contributed to Rs 33,000 crores for the NPS.
John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan after doing comedies together will now be seen in an action movie.
The Dostana pair will be seen in the Hindi remake of the Tamil movie Vettai which will be directed by Abbas-Mustan. The director duo feels that the actors are best suited for the role.
The movie will go on the floor as soon as the dates are finalised and the female leads sorted out.
The police arrested Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila of IPL’s Rajasthan Royals team in Mumbai on Thursday.
They were involved in spot-fixing in the IPL which entailed bowling no-balls at a stipulated time. Along with them, 11 bookies from three cities - Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad were also arrested. Police made the arrests after the phone tapping gave away their plans.
In the previous edition of the IPL, four players were arrested after their spot-fixing was revealed by a sting operation. It is suspected that the bookies may have Pakistani links.
Former IPL chairman Lalit Modi stated that he was hopeful measures would be taken to unearth the corruption rather than hiding facts under cover.
The Delhi Police chief is of the opinion that there is involvement of the underworld in the entire incident.
