The police in Tamil Nadu made an arrest of 33 crew members of an American ship with the name MV Seaman Guard Ohio, which was found in the territorial waters of India and failed to produce the requisite papers. They had with them a huge cache of arms and ammunition. This ship was detained by the Tamil Nadu police. 35 members were on board of which 33 were arrested and two were left for looking after the ship till further arrangements were not done. The Coast Guard east detained this ship 600 km south of Chennai and ‘Q’ Branch CID of the police made the arrest of 8 crew members and 25 guards. Case has been filed at Tharuvaikulam Marine police station following the complaint of the assistant commandant of Indian Coast Guard, Tuticorin, on October 13. The vessel had in possession huge arms and ammunition that is 35 arms and approximately 5,680 ammunition and had taken out illegally 1,500 litres from private sources without any process.
SMS was banned in Uttar Pradesh today in a bid to restrict VHP or Vishwa Hindu Parishad's 'Sankalp Sabha' which was to be held today. 1,200 persons were arrested as a preventive measure. Strict vigilance was there on the people’s movement in Ayodhya and Faizabad’s borders were sealed on Thursday itself. 42 activists from VHP were put under house arrest. These were connected to the Ram temple movement. In Lucknow 366 persons were arrested including Surendra Mishra, Bajrang Dal’s chairperson as well its spokesman Sharad Sharma was arrested. DGP is there in Ayodhya along with the principal secretary (Home). Nothing has been heard of senior VHP leader, Ashok Singhal, but it is being perceived he will come in disguise. He has been warned not to enter Ayodhya.
Markets rose at three years high today. Sensex rose by 467 points spurred by healthy buying in metal, automobile sector, banks, capital goods and oil and gas. The Sensex started with 20,486.78 points and ended at 20,882.89 points increased by 2.29% or 467.38 points. In fact it had gone up by 500 points a while ago before it closed. In the intra-day trading the Sensex reached a high of 20,918.98 points and touched a low 20,486.78 points. NSE also ended at 143.5 points up or 2.37% to end at 6,189.35.The one who gained today at BSE included Tata Steel (5.92%), ICICI Bank (4.44%), Larsen & Toubro (4.19%), H D F C Bank (3.46%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (3.18%), and Hindalco Industries (3.15%).
Preparations are on in a big way at Eden Gardens for Sachin’s 199th test. He would be playing his second last test match here and CAB is leaving no stone unturned for the big day. For this the tickets will be printed with Sachin’s pictures which will be an artist’s rendition. In this match Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be present. The pitch is being carefully curated by Prabir Mukherjee who being a fan of Sachin said that the maestro does not require a specially made pitch but still he is preparing for his love for the cricketer.

44 lakh new customers were added to GSM based mobile service providers. As per the data by Cellular Operators Association of India there was a 0.65% increase compared to last month and 4.41 million customers were added in September 2013. The total subscriber base stands at 678.82 million or 67.88 crore. The data does not take into account the subscribers for Tata Teleservices and Reliance Communications. The details are as mentioned:
- Idea Cellular added 12.07 lakh new customers and its customer base now stands at 12.72 crore
- Vodafone added over 12.05 lakh new customers and has a total of 15.55 crore subscribers
- Airtel got 11.6 lakh new customers and is the leading service provider still with a base of 19.33 crore customers
- Aircel added 6.4 lakh customers
- Uninor got 1 lakh customers this month
- The increase in Videocon’s subscribers was the highest as it received 11% increase in its subscriber’s base this month
Akshay Kumar’s latest release ‘Boss’ opened emphatically at single screens all over India and did the maximum collections in single screens for his films till now. The effect which the movie had on fans can be gauged from the fact that people danced in theatres in Kolkata, Nagpur, Ahmedabad and Pune. This shows the actor’s popularity with the masses and so the success in the single screen theaters. Akshay also screened special show at Cinemax Versova. The crowd frenzy is said to have reached the peak and some were seen even kissing the screen. The same effect was seen during Salman’s movie ‘Wanted’. Anthony D’Souza the movie’s director thanked Akshay profusely for having faith in him after the debacle of ‘Blue’.
