While answering to a written question in Rajya Sabha, Union Law Minister Sadanand Gowda said that it’s government’s duty to implement Uniform Civil code. He went on to say that as per Directive Principles of the Constitution’s Article 44, uniform civil code’s implementation has been regarded as “duty of the state”. However, he quickly added, considering sensitivity of the issue, that any decision on this will be taken only after consulting various stakeholders. Gowda also said that the issue is currently being examined by the central government. During early December, Supreme Court made it clear that uniform civil code’s implementation must be done by the parliament instead of the judiciary.
Indian campaign at 20th Avadh Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships has been commendable as Indian men won gold, followed by a silver win by the women’s team. It has been a historic moment for the men’s team because it is only the second time in twenty editions of the championship that India won gold. The first time India won gold in this championship was back in 2004 under Sharath Kamal in Malaysia. However, this year, Soumyajit Ghosh’s brilliant win helped India secure gold by winning 3-1 over England. In the women’s final, Singapore easily beat Indian eves 3-1.

Earlier UPA II government had struck off this limit, which the current government has reintroduced and may turn out to be contentious as central government can’t set any limit for the states.
