The BJP in two different representations has appealed the poll panel to ask the UPA government for holding all the major appointments till the formation of a new government. The party also sought to take action against the media advisor Pankaj Pachauri to the PM for going against model code of conduct. He used his position and tried to influence media by speaking about the achievements of the government. The BJP also asked to stop the new appointments of teachers in Kendriya Vidayalayas.
Union Commerce Minister Anand Sharma said that in the past 10 years, GDP of India has quadrupled. He said that even the countries like the US, Germany or Britain took more than 10 years and that too during the industrial revolution to double their GDP. India’s GDP in 2004 was $500 billion and today it stands at $2 trillion as per media report. Except for the past couple of years growth rate under UPA government was 7.7% whereas under BJP-led government it was less than 6.6%.
Union minister Shashi Tharoor is hopeful that in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, Congress will show a good result in Tamil Nadu. As per media report Tharoor campaigned in the state and after his return at the Congress headquarter, he said that people at Chennai are very happy that Congress has not entered into any kind of electoral alliance. They are willing to vote for the party so the party will definitely do well in the state.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee showed her anger over the Saradha scam issue and retaliated that why the wife of a union minister was not arrested though her name was there in the April (2013) letter written to the CBI. Saradha group chairman and managing director Sudipta Sen is under arrest. As per media report Mamata Banerjee criticized the Left Front for making ways for the chit fund companies and said that why the action was not taken when such companies were growing
Indian Hockey team was on its preparatory tour to Europe for the World Cup going to start from May 31 till June 15. But India lost the last match to Netherlands by 1-2. Rupinder Pal Singh converted penalty corner and scored the first goal in the second minute of the game giving India the lead of 1-0. Micro Pruyser scored the first goal in the 46th minute in the second half of the game for Netherlands. Second goal was made by Tristan Alegra in the 67th minute.
The Supreme Court has given green signal to Soma group for resuming the work of 291-km expressway between Panipat and Jalandhar as per media report. Earlier the Punjab and Haryana High Court had given permission to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for taking over the project because Soma group showed difficulty in completing the remaining 41-km stretch because of financial constraints. The apex court has kept this decision aside and allowed Soma group to shift the toll plaza. March 31, 2015 has been set as a completion date of the project.
