World No. 4 and Olympic bronze medallist Sania Nehwal defeated No. 8 Bae Yeon Ju of South Korea. This win let Sania to enter the last four of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Superseries Finals. The match lasted for one hour and nine minutes in which Sania lost first game 15-21. She then won the next two games 21-7 and 21-17.

Micromax launched its first smartphone Yureka under its CyanogenMod based Yu brand. The smartphone costs Rs 8999 and runs on Android 4.4.4 that is actually a CyanogenMod, changed version of the OS. Yureka has 5.5-inch HD screen, 16 GB expandable storage (that can be expanded to 32 GB by using microSD), a 5 megapixel front camera, 13 megapixel rear camera and a 2500 mAH battery. Micromax has given 'Play God' tag line to the smartphone.
The Ministry of External Affairs has taken an administrative step against Devyani Khobragade and placed her under a 'çompulsory wait''. All her duties as Director in the Development Partnership Division of the MEA has been taken away. As per media reports, the step has been taken as she has given an interview without taking prior permission from the MEA. In the interview she said that things have not moved since then. On the other hand the MEA Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said that action against her has been taken because of a current inquiry against her in a vigilance case. Last year Devyani was arrested and strip searched in US in a visa fraud case.
Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand are witnessing the fifth and the final phase of assembly elections amidst high security. In Jammu and Kashmir the fight is among 213 candidates for 20 seats where as in Jharkhand voting is going on for 16 seats in six districts. The Bharatiya Janata Party is thinking of winning 44 plus seats to form government in the valley. The BJP won just 10 seats in 2008 assembly elections in the state and five seats were won by Congress.
Flipkart raised $700 million funds through its fundraising activity in which both existing as well as new investors took part. Baillie Gifford, Greenoaks Capital, Steadview Capital, T Rowe Price Associates and Qatar Investment Authority are the new investors whereas DST Global, GIC, ICONIQ Capital and Tiger Global are the existing investors of Flipkart. The company will use the funds to move the company to become a world-class technology company. With this funding Flipkart Limited (incorporated at Singapore) has also filed with ACRA Singapore to become a Public Company.
US swimmer Michael Phelps has pleaded guilty to drunken driving, as per media reports. The Olympic gold medalist has been given a one-year suspended prison term and has been sentenced to 18 months of supervised probation. 29-year old Phelps was arrested in Baltimore in September after he tested at nearly twice the legal alcohol limit. He was caught for speeding at 84mph in a 45mph zone. This is the second time Phelps has been convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol. He was convicted in Maryland in 2004 and was banned from the sport for six months.
