Domestically produced natural gas has seen an upward revision of prices to $5.61 per mBtu from $4.2 per mBtu. This government decision will have an impact on consumers of PNG, CNG, fertilisers, and power. On the basis of Gross Calorific Value, the new price is going to be determined, which will be subject to review after every 6 months. From November 2013, the new price will come into effect.
In its latest move IndiGo is all set to buy 430 jets, billing $40 billion. In the aviation history of India, this is the largest order placed till date. Market analysts believe that this move has been undertaken by IndiGo management on the belief that Indian economy is going to rebound after economic performance is expected to accelerate under the new business friendly Modi government. Many also feel that it is the biggest bet any Indian aviation company has yet placed.
Diesel price has been deregulated. Most transport vehicles, including the ones transporting food articles and essential products, use diesel. Some economists believe that this will lead to increase in inflation. Due to gas and diesel price reforms, oil and gas companies will be the biggest beneficiaries. Market has responded positively and the stocks of Oil India, ONGC, BPCL, HPCL, S&P BSE Oil and Gas index, etc. are making significant gains.
Central Bureau of Investigation has slapped new case against JSPL or Jindal Steel and Power Limited. Criminal conspiracy and cheating charges have been pressed against JSPL. The FIR filed by CBI shows that JSPL has done excess coal mining and mined illegally beyond permitted areas. However, JSPL retorted by saying that all its actions are in accordance with the law of land. However, JSPL stocks saw a dip after CBI filed fresh charges against it.
BJP, the single largest party in Maharashtra assembly, has failed to reach the 145 magic figure. Though NCP has given unconditional outside support, BJP is still in two minds of allying with its estranged partner Shiv Sena. Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray had congratulated Narendra Modi and Amit Shah for the electoral success and also talked to Devendra Fadanavis as well as Om Thakur. Though RSS has asked BJP to renew relation with Shiv Sena, it needs to be seen what equation comes out in the coming days.
Shiv Sena has reminded BJP that the latter has not received a decisive mandate in Maharashtra. Uddhav Thackeray has also said that vote sharing between the estranged partners has led to INC-NCP benefit. In the latest Saamna editorial the party has said that it expects stability in Maharashtra but stopped short of referring anything towards its role in formation of next state government. BJP has made it clear that only a BJP candidate will become the next CM.
Devendra Fadnavis, Maharashtra State Unit President of BJP, is surely the frontrunner for the coveted CM’s position in Maharashtra. However, Late Gopinath Munde’s daughter Pankaja Munde is also another contender. In Haryana, the leading contender for CM’s chair is Captain Abhimanyu Singh Sindhu, who is also General Secretary of the state unit. While Dinesh Sharma and Venkaiah Naidu will visit Haryana for discussion and final selection of the CM candidate in Haryana, JP Nadda and Rajnath Singh will be there in Maharashtra to take the final call.
Bilawal Bhutto, Chief of Pakistan People's Party, has raised Kashmir issue once again to get political mileage in Pakistan. During a public rally, the 26 year old politician has said that Pakistan will take Kashmir from India. Just one month back Bilawal assured his countrymen that they will take back every inch of Kashmir if PPP assumes power.
