In an attempt to keep pace with the changing technology, the Bihar Police has decided to use popular social networking apps like Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp for sharing vital information among its officers. For this, all the officers, from Station House Officers (SHOs) to DGPs, would be provided Android powered smartphones and taught the right means of using the same. The smartphones are likely to play significant role in connecting the officers from police station level to the state-level.
Today, the Delhi High Court put on hold a ban that has been imposed on the sale and manufacture of more than 300 fixed dose combinations (FDC) medicines like D’Cold, Vicks Action 500 Extra and Benadryl. After resuming a hearing on pleas by 30+ pharmaceutical companies, the court decided to hold the ban till 28 March 2016. Previously, Delhi High Court had offered an interim relief on 14 March to Pfizer’s cough syrup ‘Corex’, followed by granting the same to over 30 pharmaceutical firms.
Today, the Delhi High Court directed the three municipal corporations of New Delhi to ensure that the payment of February salaries is being made to all the employees by 29 March 2016. Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Nath had on 16 March directed all the MCD’s to pay the February salaries by today. Previously, the advocates backing the municipal corporations had informed the bench about 100 per cent salaries that were already paid for February and that just five to 10 per cent employees had to be paid their Feb salary.

Today, Uber India informed about its API integration with the renowned online entertainment booking portal BookMyShow. That means, users will now be able to reach the movie theater via an Uber can after having booked their tickets using the BookMyShow mobile app. Users will either receive an option to ‘Ride Now’ or the flexibility to set a reminder to book a ride to the movie hall on Uber.

Apple is planning to set up a flagship Apple Store in India. This store would be on the lines of the famous outlet already set up on Fifth Avenue in New York. Three senior industry executives have reported that the brokerage firms are on a hunt for prime retail locations in the National Capital Region, Pune, Bengaluru and Mumbai. The iPhone maker is inclined on setting up a majority of Apple Stores of over 2,000- 3,000 sqft in the country.
Today, the Indian National Congress expelled Mr. Vijay Bahuguna’s son Saket for six years on finding it as the ‘mastermind’ behind rebellion within the political party. On the contrary, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat has been asked by Uttarakhand Governor KK Paul to prove his majority on the assembly floor before 28 March 2016.
Economists and bankers are expecting the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to cut down the rates in its monetary policy review on 5 April 2016. While some banks believe the conditions to be appropriate for a rate cut in March, the reason behind a latest rate deduction is the government’s decision to slash the interest rates on small savings. It was relatively a higher interest on small savings that restricted the lenders from reducing the rates.
Today, the Delhi High Court will be resuming the hearing on petitions by over 300 pharmaceutical companies like Procter and Gamble (P&G), Pfizer and Cipla, challenging the Central government’s decision on banning the sale of some of their leading fixed dose combination medicines. Justice Rajiv Sahai Endaw had previously stayed the operation of government’s notification till 21 March and would be hearing the matter. Other pharmaceutical companies which have filed petitions include Ajanta Pharma, Dr. Reddy’s. Alkem Laboratories, Micro Lab Ltd, Coral Laboratories Ltd. and Eris Lifesciences Pvt. Ltd.
Government has planned to open the one-time offer to settle retrospective tax disputes involving firms like Cairn Energy and Vodafone from 1 June 2016. All the rules framed for smooth implementation of the tax settlement scheme would be notified in the Official Gazette and include a form, particulars and a declaration that the companies would be expected to make. The scheme’s closure date would be decided by the Revenue Department at a later point of time.
