Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said that Tejas fighter jet, indigenous light combat aircraft (LCA), is as good as Rafale because it “has the same qualities as Rafale”, especially in terms of “avionics, electronics and firepower”. Tejas costs just Rs. 200-250 crore and is less than half the price of other established fighter jets such as Su-30 (Rs.475 crore) and Rafale (Rs. 700-750 crore). Minister said that Tejas will be flying by Diwali as the first Squadron will be ready by September-October. Parrikar’s enthusiastic comments come just days after IAF Chief Arup Raha called it a “good aircraft to fly” and announced its induction in the fleet.
While delivering speech at annual lecture of Competition Commission of India (CCI), Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley lauded eCommerce companies for bringing widest possible choices before consumers at most competitive prices. Jaitley went on to add that E-commerce “promotes innovation, efficiency and quality”. He said that his government is making every possible effort for improving India’s “ease of doing business index”. Minister went on to say that passage of Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code is going to help sick industrial companies resolve problems quicker.

Apple CEO Tim Cook not only announced facilities for both Hyderabad and Bangalore during his India visit but also said that they are considering India as a viable investment destination. Discarding rumours that Apple is just testing waters, Cook said that they are here to invest for long term. He also said that are here to stay for 1000 years. Today, Apple CEO also met PM Narendra Modi at the latter's official residence and also launched the updated version of Narendra Modi mobile app.
National Investigation Agency (NIA) has approached authorities of South Africa for bringing back Zahid Miyan alias Jao, henchman of Dawood Ibrahim’s D-company who works directly with Pakistan-based Javed Chikna, who is now settled in South Africa. India has already requested South African authorities to nab Zahid (operating on behalf of Dawood), who now lives at 23 Malan Road, Korsten, Durban Road, Port Elizabeth. Reports say that India is going to request Jao’s extradition soon.
The CBSE announced Class 12 board results today with an overall pass percentage of 83.05 per cent: 88.58 per cent and 78.85 per cent pass percentage for girls and boys respectively. Delhi’s Sukriti Gupta (of Ashok Vihar’s Monfort School) is the all-India topper with 99.4 per cent marks, scoring 497 marks out of 500. Haryana’s Palak Goyal (of Tagore Public School in Kurukshetra’s Pehowa) stood second with 99.2 per cent marks. 10,67,900 candidates had registered for the exam.
ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) has started intensifying Jihadist recruitment from India as they released a new propaganda video where an Indian engineering student Fahad Tanvir Sheikh from Thane vowed to return “with a sword in hand” and avenge the wrongs done to Muslims in Muzaffarnagar, Gujarat, and Kashmir and many other wrongs such as killing in the name of cow, demolition of Babri Masjid, and conversion to Hinduism. Reports point out that the identified Indian faces (Fahad Tanvir Sheikh, Aarif Majid, Saheem Tanki, and Amaan Tandel) in the video could have been former members of Indian Mujahideen.
