Former IPL Chairman, Lalit Modi, has now trained his guns on current Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, as he made a volley of accusations against Jaitley through personal twitter account. He went on to call Jaitley a person who belongs to Congress family by birth and also shared a picture showing him enjoying cricket match with Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Robert Vadra. He went on to announce that he has no issues in getting punished and vouched to fight the issue till the end. When Jaitley was contacted he refused to make any comment but added that the transactions between Lalit Modi and BJP MP Dushyant Singh, son of Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje, was commercial in nature and the deal was between two individuals.
While touring US, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley assured foreign investors and FIIs by saying that retrospective tax issue is a foregone chapter for the future and the retrospective taxation regime was indeed a legacy. He went on to say that Narendra Modi government has no plan to legislate retrospectively and are looking forward to putting an end to it. He also reaffirmed investors that his government has no intention of taking fresh action on the basis of “old retrospective laws. However, Jaitley also noted that the ongoing retrospective MAT tussle with some foreign companies is an issue concerned with a handful of companies only and it is currently pending before the Supreme Court. While sharing his views on Indian economy during the 10-days US trip, Finance Minister said that inflation is under control and the interest rates will witness a downward movement in the coming days.
Online Mutual Fund platform of National Stock Exchange got a shot in the arm today as it introduced liquid transaction facility for customers for overnight. This facility will enable small investors to park their money in liquid funds, even for a single night. In a circular, NSE said that a similar kind of product has been introduced by Bombay Stock Exchange in the month of May 2015, witnessing Rs. 400-500 crore worth of daily transactions. The circular says they are in the process of introducing an additional order entry functionality that allows investors to place both purchase and redemption orders in liquid schemes on a simultaneous basis. It went on to inform that this facility will be available on both online and physical mode platform of Mutual Fund Service System. The investors will be able to place overnight orders from 9 am to 1 pm in liquid schemes.
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the parent ideological organisation of Bharatiya Janata Party, has asked BJP to take up the issue of building Ram Mandir at Ayodhya and make it one of the main agendas before 2017 Assembly Election in Uttar Pradesh. Reports say that RSS has already decided to hold a meet on July’s second week in Ayodhya to fuel the issue, which led to the astronomic rise of BJP since late 1980s. Mohan Bhagwat, Chief of RSS, has reportedly said that the overwhelming support BJP received during 2014 parliamentary election was overwhelming in favour of constructing Ram temple. Intensifying Ram Temple movement was raised in a internal organisation meeting of RSS in Varanasi by its chief before senior leaders of BJP, Bajrang Dal, and RSS. Union Minister Kalraj Mishra said that the saffron organisation is charting out the strategy for paving way to build the temple.
Reports say that inflow of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in India has increased by 112 per cent in April 2015, when compared to same period last year. In relation to March 2015, the total FDI inflow in April 2015 has increased by a mammoth 71 per cent. Amitabh Kant, secretary of DIPP, said that he is confident that India will receive record amount of capital inflows in the 2015-16 fiscal, owing to ease in business environment. In April 2015, total FDI amount stands at $3.6 billion. It is the second highest FDI inflow in the last one year, highest being in January 2015 when the FDI inflow touched $4.4 billion, a jump of 109 per cent over January’14. PM Modi’s thrust on Make in India initiative has already started showing results as FDI in domestic manufacturing has increased to $1.06 billion, a growth of 142 per cent.
Chinese state media has said that in an attempt to increase bonhomie with India, China has inaugurated a new land crossing today through which Indian pilgrims can visit Tibet. Xinhua news agency’s report says that the first pilgrim group entered Tibet mid-morning today through a Himalayan pass. They have already kick started their 12 days long journey to Mount Kailash. Reports say that opening of this pass was agreed upon by Chinese and Indian officials last year when Chinese President Xi Jinping made his historic India tour. The Chinese state news agency also said that this move will promote religious exchanges between India and China, both the countries having rich religious (Buddhism as well as Hinduism) heritages. Mount Kailash, which has immense religious significance for Hindu pilgrims, has remained largely elusive till now because of the problems faced by Indian people in getting visas from China.
The Supreme Court has asked both Union government and Uttar Pradesh Government the reasons why a CBI inquiry has not been ordered in the alleged murder of Jagender Singh, a freelance journalist who took the case of a raped Aganwadi victim and carried out a strong campaign on Facebook against a UP minister, in Shahjahanpur. SC has asked for a response from both State and central government on the same. Reports say that Ram Murti Verma, a UP minister and Samajwadi Party leader, and his henchmen raided house of journalist Jagender Singh on 1 June and set him on fire at Shahjahanpur’s Vikas Colony located in Sadar Bazar. The journalist died on 8 June. The slain journalist’s family was on hunger strike but broke it only when CM Akhilesh Yadav visited them and assured them of proper investigation.
The Indian Navy today carried out a daring rescue operation and rescued all the twenty crewmembers of a merchant vessel named Jindal Kamakshi. A Navy officer said that the rescue operation took place 40 nautical miles northwest of Mumbai harbor and the operation was carried out despite the adverse weather conditions. As per latest information, the rescued crew members of the vessel were undergoing medical checkup. A defence spokesperson said that the 19 crewmembers were airlifted and brought to Mumbai’s INS Shikra. The twentieth crewmember was airlifted by another Navy helicopter. Giving more details about the daring rescue op, the spokesperson said that the Navy received the distress signal at midnight, which mentioned about heavy listing of the vessel, total crew members in it, and assistance request. The immediate evacuation request was received at 7am IST today. Immediately, Seaking chopper was deployed along with the ship for rendering help.

OnePlus has ended the exclusive partnership of selling their flagship killer OnePlus One smartphone through Amazon. Now, the company has decided to sell their coveted handset through Flipkart too. General Manager – India of OnePlus, Vikas Agarwal, said that 64 GB (Sandstone Black) model of the flagship killer will be available at a price of Rs. 21,999 through Flipkart from 22 June. He also told media that Silk White variant of 16 GB OnePlus One is expected to be priced at Rs. 18,999 in few weeks from now. Aggarwal went on to add that it is their constant endeavour to reach out to more customers and they are happy to partner with Flipkart, which he expects will help them expand their reach throughout India. He also called this new move another step towards their go-to market strategy. Flipkart’s VP-Retail, Amitesh Jha, said they are excited to become channel partner of OnePlus.
Bangladesh cricket team thrashed Team India at Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium yesterday by clinching a 6-wicket victory, thereby winning the ODI series by 2-0. Brilliant performance by left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman (with a spell of 6-43) humiliated Indian batsmen and restricted the visitors to 200 runs in 47 overs. It took the Bangla Tigers to score 200 runs in just 38 overs in a rain soaked match, leading to 2nd ODI (by Duckworth Lewis method) win with élan. Shakib al Hasan was the highest scorer, scoring a knock of 51 runs not out in just 62 balls. Indian skipper, at the wake of embarrassing loss to the minnows, offered to step down from captaincy. However, Bangladesh’s emphatic win was marred by famous Indian cricket fan Sudhir Gautam’s claim that he was mobbed and physically harassed by Bangladeshi fans outside the stadium after end of yesterday’s match.
India’s ace tennis player Rohan Bopanna and his Romanian partner were unable to clinch the doubles title at Gerry Weber Open and had to remain satisfied with runners up title. The 2nd seeded Indo-Romanian pair lost to the unseeded American-South African duo Raven Klaasen and Rajeev Ram in straight sets 6-7(5) 2-6. It took Raven-Ram combination one hour and twelve minutes to clinch the Gerry Weber Open men’s doubles title from the second seed. Rohan Bopanna-Florin Mergea pair are going through a great phase as this is their second great showing after winning Stuttgart’s Mercedes Cup last week. By winning the runners up title in this ATP tournament, they not only shared 50,880 as prize money but also bagged 300 ranking points. Indo-Romanian partner started the game well and also broke service but lost momentum as the opposition increased their grip on the game.
