Government increases DA by 6 Per Cent during Assembly Poll Season

With assembly election just around the corner in 4 states and 1 union territory, Union Government has announced increasing of dearness allowance by 6 per cent, which will benefit more than one crore central government employees as well as pensioners. After a Union Cabinet meeting, telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad announced the DA hike, which will be effective from January 1, 2016 and will put an additional burden of Rs 14,724.74 crore per annum (Rs. 6,795.5 crore towards employees and Rs. 7,929.24 crore towards pensioners) on the exchequer.

PM Modi asks Bureaucrats to be Proactive and Close registered Complaints within 60 Days

While video conferencing with Chief Secretaries as well as Secretaries under PRAGATI initiative, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that delay of addressing grievances by 3 to 6 months is “unacceptable”. PM Modi has asked the bureaucrats to expedite the process and close the registered online complaints within 60 days from registry of the complaint. Statement issued by PMO says that top officers have been asked to intervene in this matter. PM asked to thoroughly check (district-wise) electronically offered citizen-centric services.

Political Fraternity pays Homage to Martyrs Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to the freedom fighters Shaahed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru yesterday to commemorate the martyrdom day. British government executed the trio in Lahore conspiracy case on March 23, 1931. PM Modi saluted the freedom fighters, their valour, and patriotism, which inspires generations. BJP is also commemorating martyrdom of Bhagat Singh through a 3-day programme from March 23-25. Congress and BJP got involved in a verbal spat after Congress MP Shashi Tharoor compared JNUSU President Kanhaiya with Bhagat Singh.

Equity allocation by US Investors in India crosses that of China

US Treasury data, till December 2015, shows direct equity allocation by US investors in India has reached 1.8 per cent of total US foreign equity holdings. Direct equity allocation by US investors in China in the same period has reached 1.6 per cent. During September 2013-December 2015, direct investment of US investors in Indian equities has increased from $7 billion to $12 billion. The same in case of Chinese equities, during the same period, has decreased from $12.8 billion to $11.1 billion.

11 Highway Projects worth Rs 6,284 crore approved by Government

Road Transport and Highways Secretary Sanjay Mitra has said that the ministry has approved construction of 11 highway projects, covering a total distance of around 453 km. Aggregate total capital cost of construction of these 11 highway projects is estimated to be Rs 6,284 crore. Three modes of construction will be followed in the construction of these highway projects – EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) mode for 9 projects, hybrid annuity mode for 1 project, and BOT (Toll) mode for 1 project.

PM Modi and Bangladesh PM inaugurates 3rd Internet Gateway of India

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated internet connectivity project between the two countries, Agartala became the 3rd internet gateway of India (after Chennai and Mumbai). Vikas Swarup (spokesperson of External Affairs Ministry) said in a tweet that people of Tripura will now be able to get more reliable net connectivity after Akhaura (in Bangladesh) to Agartala (in India) leasing of international bandwidth for internet. Swarup said 100 MW power transmission project between Bangladesh and India’s Paltana (Tripura) establishes another link between the two countries.

India pulls off Thriller against Bangladesh at ICC World Twenty20 2016

Strengthening chances of qualifying for the semi final match of ICC World Twenty20 2016, India defeated Bangladesh by 1 run. During the Super 10 game, played in Bangalore yesterday, Bangladesh won the toss and asked India to bat first. In 20 overs, India piled up a score of 146/7 with Suresh Raina being the highest scorer (30 runs). Bangladesh played well and almost won the match. However, panicking at the last over and losing two wickets made them fall short of the target by 1 run.

Terrorist-turned-approver Headley says LeT tried to Assassinate Late Bal Thackeray

Pakistani-American terrorist-turned-approver David Coleman Headley has said that Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) once tried to assassinate the then Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray. He also said that the LeT operative was caught before carrying out the assassination. However, the captured assailant fled from police custody after the capture. While negating reports that he received money from LeT, Headley claimed that he donated around “Rs. 60 to 70 lakh Pakistani Rupees” to Lashkar-e-Taiba till 2006.

Muslim Personal Law Board says SC has nothing to do with Muslim Personal Law's Triple Talaq

All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has claimed that apex court of India has no jurisdiction of testing legal validity of Muslim personal law’s triple talaq. AIMPLB said that the said exercise can’t be determined by any parliament enacted law because the Muslim personal law is based upon the community’s holy text Quran. AIMPLB’s response came after suo motu decision was undertaken by Supreme Court to test triple talaq’s legal validity. AIMPLB’s advocate Ejaz Maqbool told SC that ‘Muslim personal law is a cultural issue’.
