The teachers in Bihar remained adamant in their stance of boycotting the mid-day meal scheme. The result was that school children belonging to the lower strata of the economy remained hungry for the day. The teachers did not prepare or serve the food as they have put forth their demand of not participating in non-academic work. They did not pay heed to the appeal by the state government and started their boycott from today. 3,00,000 teachers have decided that they will not participate in the scheme. Akshay Patra, has been asked to handle the scheme in Patna and Muzaffarpur. Earlier, the state education Minister had stated that it was difficult to get an agency to handle the operation across 72,000 schools and serving 1.6 crore children in the state.
A sessions court convicted the lone accused Shazad Ahmad in the Batla House encounter which led to the loss of life of Delhi Police Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma. It was after almost five years justice was delivered. The court will state its orders on July 29. In the trial as many as 72 witnesses were examined, two were from defence and 70 from the prosecution. Ahmad's family has even said that they will move the High Court against the judgement.
Shahzad Ahmad, who is supposedly a member of the Indian Mujahideen, resided in a flat in Jamia Nagar, and was among those who fired at the police team on September 19, 2008, which killed Inspector Sharma. While the prosecution established there were enough circumstantial evidence to prove Ahmad was there in the flat, his counsel stated he was not. Indian Mujahideen were said to be responsible for the serial blasts on September 13 in the same year which resulted in 26 casualties and 133 persons being injured.
Shah Rukh Khan with his love for technology has come up with a game for the promotion of his upcoming movie 'Chennai Express'. The game has been titled as 'Chennai Express: Escape from Rameshwaram' and in it the player needs to overcome obstacles like cars, trucks and carts of coconut as well as fight with the bad men to accumulate 10,000 coins to unlock Deepika Padukone’s avatar. Shah Rukh stated that the game will promote the theme of the movie. The Chennai Express game has been developed by Disney UTV's digital arm as a free application for Android and Java devices.
A 49% increase in net profit has been recorded in the Q1 by Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. The profits stand at Rs. 631.61 crore, compared to Rs. 423.77 crore during same period in the last fiscal. The company cited many reasons for the increase ranging from initiatives undertaken to reduce costs and conducive foreign exchange rates. The company is said to have benefited from the merger with Suzuki Powertrain India Ltd.
Net sale of Rs. 9,995.12 crore was recorded with a slump of 5.1% as in the last fiscal the sales stood at Rs. 10,529.24 crore for the same quarter. This was attributed to the trend which is visible in the entire industry. In the last fiscal 295,896 units were sold whereas in the current fiscal 266,434 units were sold with a dip of 9.95%. Domestic sales showed a decline of 6.80%, exports too dipped by 35.37% compared to the same period of last fiscal.
National Badminton coach Pullela Gopichand was all praises for the country’s leading shuttler Saina Nehwal. He stated that there is all the possibility for her to come with flying colors at the World Championships due to start in China. Gopichand added that Saina is the icon for young players and in the tournament she will be one of the favorites to get top honors. Saina has put in a lot of hard work and the past 4 weeks have been positive for her. She has been seeded third in the World Championships scheduled to take place from Aug 5-11 in Guangzhou, China.

Google Inc. launched the new Nexus 7 tablet. Yet to come to India the product which is available in the US is viewed as the costliest tablet priced at $229 for 16 GB storage and the 32 GB variant comes with a price tag of $269.
