A court in Puducherry gave acquittal to all the accused in the Sankararaman murder case which had grabbed the limelight. In this charges were on two seers of Kanchipuram Sankara Mutt, Vijayendra Saraswathi and Jayendra Saraswathi. Judge C.S. Murugan, Puducherry Principal District and Sessions pronounced the verdict of the trial which lingered for more than 9 years. It was stated that the witnesses account could not support the prosecution’s case which specified murder conspiracy. Even the family of the victim was not able to identify the murderers. As per the police Sankararaman was complaining in writing anonymously when he was murdered in his office. He was the manager in the Varadarajaperumal temple in Kanchipuram on September 3, 2004. Apart from the two seers there were 22 more persons who had various charges on them. All were let off. 189 witnesses testified between 2009 and 2012 out of which 83 became hostile.
The young journalist who was allegedly sexually assaulted by Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal today deposed before a judicial magistrate in Goa. She was brought to Goa secretly and was taken to the court in Panaji. Her statement was recorded conforming to section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code. On the other hand Tejpal has stated that the rape case which has been filed against him by the Goa government and not the victim is a ploy to frame him as Tehelka has exposed senior BJP leaders. Congress Minister Jayanthi Natarajan adding support to the theory has questioned whether the Goa CM deals with the rape cases like this. Goa CM has even gone ahead and stated that Tejpal can do a sting operation to reveal he has been framed.
India won the ODI series against West Indies 2-1 with an easy five-wicket victory in the 3rd ODI. The win was etched by Shikhar Dhawan’s smashing century. West Indies made 263 for five and India reached the target with 23 balls still remaining. Dhawan made 119 in 95 balls. This is his 5th ton in ODI while Yuvraj Singh scored a 55 in 74 balls.Their partnership was of 129 runs which provided the foundation for the Indian innings. For the West Indies innings Kieran Powell made 70 runs, Marlon Samuels scored 71 and Darren Bravo was not out at 51. West Indies at one point of time was 137 for 1. Ravichandran Ashwin grabbed two wickets for 45.
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India is now taking strict stand against pesky calls and has penalized some service providers. Now the banks have to sort out this issue of unwanted calls and SMSs till mid-December. Insurance companies have asked for 4-6 weeks time for dealing with the UCC or unsolicited commercial calls and the text messages. Trai is not taking action immediately against the banks as it may lead to disruption of financial transaction and cause inconvenience to the public. So they have been given 2-3 weeks time to get back to Trai. Both the banks and insurance companies have been notified that if they fail to take action then their connections will be snapped.
