WTO Meeting Delayed by 1 Day

General Council meeting of WTO, which was supposed to pass TFA as well as India’s main demand of peace clause for food security on November 26, has been delayed by one day. The crucial meeting will now take place on November 27. Officials of WTO told that some countries (including Argentina and Pakistan) wanted some more time to understand December 2013’s Bali work programme.

SAARC Summit is on the Brink of Failure; Last Ditch Effort will be Made to Convince Pak PM

Regional connectivity agreement among the SAARC countries is on the brink of failure as Pakistan wants to give it some more time to complete the ‘internal process’. As per tradition of the summit, leaders of the participating nations will meet unofficially at a retreat (at Kavre district’s Dhulikhel of Nepal) and it is learnt that they will try to convince Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif to sign the important agreement, which is expected to push trade and economic ties between the SAARC countries to the next level.

Badaun Rape Case -- Not a Rape and Murder Incident but a Case of Suicide

Infamous Badaun rape case’s final report disclosure is expected to be submitted by CBI to the court on November 28. CBI has found out that the two sisters, belonging to dalit caste, were not murdered and then hanged but committed suicide. The 5 accused have been cleared from all kinds of allegations by CBI.  Barkha Shukla, Chairperson of Delhi Commissioner of Women, has asked the investigating agency to revisit the case and punish the culprits.

Doval Appointed Principal Secretary; Will Negotiate with China to Resolve Dispute

Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor and confidante of Narendra Modi, has been appointed as the Principal Secretary. He will negotiate with China on the territorial issues and also carry forward strategic consultations. Doval becomes the 5th Special Representative of India, preceded by Shivshankar Menon, M K Narayanan, JN Dixit, and Brajesh Mishra. China’s SR is Yang Jiechi. India’s SR post was first offered to former foreign secretary Shyam Saran. However, he declined because the offered position was two levels below that of Yang Jiechi.

Budgam Killing Fallout: Indian Army Indicts 9 Soldiers

After a court found gross violation of engagement rules against 9 soldiers involved in shooting and killing two innocent youths of Kashmir, Army indicted the culprits, among which one is Junior Commissioned Officer. DS Hooda, GOC Northern Command Lieutenant General, said that Army takes responsibility of the unfortunate incident and acknowledges that it was a mistake on their part.

Deck Cleared for Appointment of Next CBI Chief at least in Lok Sabha

Appointment of the next CBI chief cleared hurdle of Lok Sabha as NDA has a majority in the house.  Government passed a Bill that made way to amendment of law for appointing CBI chief. INC and opposition parties including BJD voted against the Bill. However, passing the Bill in Rajya Sabha will be a problem because NDA is in the minority. Government has to appoint the next CBI chief before December 2, the day when Ranjit Sinha retires.   

Khushbu Joins INC; Prospects of Congress Improves in Tamil Nadu

Khushbu, the actor-turned-politician from South India, has joined Congress. She was earlier associated with DMK (joined in 2010) but quit the party in June 2014 . The 44-year old politician has put her faith on the grand old party of India and opined that it is only INC that can unite India and serve its people. After former INC leader GK Vasan left the party and floated his own party, Khushbu’s joining the Congress is believed to improve the prospects of the struggling party in Tamil Nadu.

CPIM on the Offensive Against Union Government regarding Curtailment of MNREGA Funds

Curtailing of MNREGA funds by Narendra Modi government seems to be snowballing as the next biggest issue in the coming days. Left parties, especially CPIM, has hit the roads against central government for depriving states from MNREGA funds and ‘conspiring’ to ‘dismantle’ the income generating scheme for rural poor. A CPIM leader from Tripura has said that the centre has disbursed just Rs 20,428 crore funds in place of the Rs 40,000 crore budget estimate.   

Lumia 535 to hit the Indian Market Tomorrow; Excellent Specs but Below Rs. 10000 Price

Microsoft has launched in India its first ever Lumia line of smartphone solely under the brand name of Microsoft without having any relation with the Nokia brand. Lumia 535 is priced at Rs. 9199. From 28 November this handset will be available in Indian market. It comes with quad-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, RAM of 1GB, 8GB ROM, OneDrive storage of 15GB (Free), up to 128GB expandable storage, 5MP primary and secondary cameras, 5 inch display, etc.

Pankaj Advani and Manan Chandra Advances; Kamal Chawla Crashes Out

Seaways IBSF World Snooker Championships became interesting as Manan Chandra and Pankaj Advani entered the final 32-stage. However, Kamal Chawla crashed out of the tournament. Though tournament favourite Skalski won the first two games (81-49 and 47-37) against Advani, the young Indian fought back and won the last 4 games with elan. Manan Chandra defeated Pakistan’s Muhammad Asif (runner-up of 2013) by 4-2 games.  

Indian eCommerce Space Witnessing Consolidation through Mergers and Acquisitions

The fashion portal Jabong.com controls 25 per cent of the fashion market of India. Amazon is believed to buy this site at an estimated cost of around USD 1.2 billion. However, it is learnt that the discussion is in the initial stage between Amazon and Rocket Internet, the company that backs Jabong.com. Amazon’s possible acquisition plan comes after Indian major Flipkart acquired Myntra sometime back.

Passionate Speech of NaMo makes Alibaba's Founder Jack Ma to Expand Investment in India

Founder of Alibaba Group, Jack Ma, has said that he got inspired by the passionate speech of Indian PM to increase his group’s investment in India. Though 50 year old billionaire’s eCommerce venture controls 80 per cent of the Chinese  online commerce space, in India it has negligible presence. Ma’s announcement comes at a time when Technopak’s forecast  expects Indian eCommerce space to expand from a $2.3 billion to $32 billion by 2020.
