Management of Tata Motors has decided to get approval of stockholders in raising a mammoth Rs. 7,500 crore through rights issue. Available reports on the meeting of Board of Directors point out that rights issue will be done through ‘A’ Ordinary and Ordinary stocks. Sources reveal that Rs. 7,500 crore funds will be used for reduction of debt, on one hand, and meeting growth plans, on the other. Company statement said that timing, pricing, and quantum of issue will be decided at a later date, depending upon the approval of stakeholders, market condition, and other factors.
State Bank of India has decided to raise Rs 15,000 crore of share capital for meeting capital adequacy requirement and at the same time support growth of loan. Per available reports, this massive capital share will be raised through equity offering. Sources have said that American depository receipt as well as global depository receipt may also be explored by SBI for raising money. From the information shared by the bank to BSE, it is learnt that approval of stakeholders would be sought by the bank management to raise additional equity share capital.
With change of management at SpiceJet, the financially troubled airliner is trying hard to get back its lost market share in the expanding domestic airline market by offering tickets at discounted price of Rs. 1,499. The sale will start from today and will continue for three days. With these tickets customers can travel from February 15 to June 30. Founder CEO of TripFactory, Vinay Gupta, has given this initiative thumbs up as he feels offering of discounted ticket by SpiceJet is a sign of improving prospects of the company.
Recorded discussion between US President Barack Obama and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was aired by AIR yesterday evening through ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme. During the special joint address, Obama said that USA is impressed with Modi’s effort in providing clean energy, empowering women, increasing access to electricity, and reducing poverty. While Obama stressed on the need for enhanced partnership with Indian government, NGOs, and other organizations, he hoped for improvement in India-US partnership on shared values. PM Modi not only initiated the program by letting Indians know the meaning of ‘Obama’ (one who is blessed) but also said that it was the US President who gifted NaMo with a book on Swami Vivekananda. Bonhomie between the two leaders was evident from the discussion.
Election Commission has warned Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal of ‘stern action’ if he repeats the bribe remark during Delhi Assembly election campaign, starting from 7pm yesterday. Kejriwal repeated his ‘bribe’ jibe during his Shahdara and Babarpur rallies, which were held before 7pm. He desisted from making the same controversial comment during his Patparganj rally, held after 7pm. AAP chief has said that projecting Kiran Bedi as BJP’s CM candidate will backfire for Delhi. It is learnt that neither Narendra Modi nor National President of BJP Amit Shah will campaign against Kejriwal in the latter’s New Delhi assembly constituency. Recent ABP News – Nielsen’s pre-poll survey shows that rating in favour of Kejriwal for CM’s post improved by 4 per cent since last survey.
Verbal volley between BJP’s Kiran Bedi and AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal continued as the former called the latter a highly toxic and negative person during an interview. She also said that she is an independent person who works for the interest of the nation and driven by mere ego. Bedi also said that she came to know intricacies of governance while actively participating in the anti-corruption movement spearheaded by Anna Hazare. BJP’s chief ministerial candidate told media that she joined politics to spearhead the cause of development in Delhi and she is against ‘divisive politics’.
News reports have confirmed that Dinamalar, a renowned Tamil newspaper, has received a threat letter from ‘Al Quaeda’ that threatened of a possible attack on the newspaper similar to that happened some weeks back in Paris’s Charlie Hebdo office, which took lives of 14 satirical cartoonists. Investigation has been initiated and attempts are made to cross-check whether the sender’s postal address of Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore, mentioned in the letter, is authentic.
Yesteryear ‘angry young man’ of Bollywood Amitabh Bachchan disagreed with Mamata Banerjee’s suggestion that the legendary actor be honoured with ‘Bharat Ratna’ award. Amitabh Bachchan tweeted back to the West Bengal Chief Minister and said that he is honoured as well as humbled by getting the award of Padma Vibhushan, conferred by the Union Government. The legendary actor went on to say that he doesn't think he deserves the Bharat Ratna award.
National Investigation Agency made arrests of 4 main suspects from different parts of West Bengal today. Sources reveal that one of the suspects is allegedly the main recruiter of the Burdwan Blast case. Reports point out that NIA went ahead with the arrests of these 4 suspects after Kolkata court extended custody of 4 operatives of Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (including Rezaul Karim, Rafiqul Islam, Safiqul Islam, and Sahanur Alam) arrested earlier.

Exclusive official online partner of Micromax’s smartphone Yu Yureka that runs on Cyanogen OS 11 operating system, Amazon India, announced that the smartphone has been offered for sale today for a time span of 1 hour, from 2PM to 3PM IST. This offer was based on invitation that the eligible customers received through mail today, a press release of the company revealed. Available reports point out that this limited sales offer was intended to rectify brand image of the smartphone that got shattered due to difficulties met by registered users on January 13.

Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone maker, is set to launch its latest smartphone Mi4 in the Indian market today. This device is 4G-enabled and is going to be the fourth handset to be released in the Indian market by the Chinese handset manufacturer. Xiaomi Mi4, launched in China in July 2014, comes with a 5-inch display, Android KitKat operating system, Snapdragon 801Quad Core processor clocked at a speed of 2.5 GHz, RAM of 3GB, amazing cameras (13MP rear and 8MP front faced), and many more attractive features.
Management of Indian cricket team has decided to rest its important batsman Rohit Sharma during the crucial cricket match on January 30 against England in the on-going tri-series. It is learnt that the Indian management took this decision to not play the injured player, suffering from hamstring injury, in the on-going series so that he becomes fit during the World cup matches, which starts within 3 weeks’ time. Team physio of India suggested Rohit to take a week's rest after going through the MRI report.
