Uttarakhand: Rs 195 cr announced for Char Dham pilgrimage

The rescue operations in Uttarakhand are on the verge of completion though bodies are still lying under debris and, as per the last reports, 3,000 still remained missing.

Today, a guard of honor was given to the 20 bravehearts who died in the crash on Tuesday. Efforts are on to find the missing people and transport the sick, old, women and children to safer destinations.

Also, 1,000 people are stuck at Badrinath who will be evacuated as soon as possible. The tourism Ministry has announced Rs.195 cr for rebuilding of Char Dham pilgrimage. As of now 1,04,687 persons have been rescued from the state.

West Bengal Panchayat Polls from July 11: SC

The apex court has stated July 11 as beginning of the West Bengal panchayat polls which will happen in five phases. The dates earmarked are 11th, 15th, 19th, 22nd and 25th in July.

The court has also directed the State Election Commission and the State government to look into the security forces availability. Earlier the poll panel and the state government were engaged in a tussle over the matter of central security forces being there for the polls. The poll panel appealed to the apex court which drew lot of criticism particularly from the Calcutta High Court which heard the case.

Gas price hike leads to Sensex soaring 500 points

The natural gas prices were increased for the first time in three years. Now, the prices have been doubled and the Finance Minister P. Chidambaram stated that this step had been taken for low domestic production.

As the domestic output were low, there were no investments in the sector and due to huge imports which was spurred by high demands buoyed by low prices, was having an effect on the economy. If the prices were higher, the production would increase and dependence on imports would decrease. The gas price hike instantly reflected on the market with the Sensex surging 500 points and BSE ended above the 20000 mark.

Along with that, the rupee also recovered all the losses it had in the week.

Bookie linked with spot fixing scandal in IPL6 arrested

A bookie involved with the IPL 6 spot-fixing scandal was arrested by the Delhi Police.

The bookie, Jitender Tharar, was nabbed at Ahmedabad. The police was on the lookout for him from the time the three Rajasthan Royals players -- S. Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan got arrested on May 16 in Mumbai.

Till date, 29 people have been arrested in the spot-fixing scandal out of which 21 including Sreesanth and Chavan, have been released on bail by the court.

"Lootera" is special: Ekta

Ekta Kapoor considers Lootera to be one of the movies which are special to her and she stated that it would be a hit at the box-office.

She also said that the movie has the ingredients to be popular before it releases. The movie which is a period romance is directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and has Ranveer Singh with Sonakshi Sinha in the lead. It hit screens on July 5.

With this, Balaji Motion Pictures will bring out the first love story from its stable.

Pre-booking of Micromax Canvas 4 starts

Pre-booking of Micromax Canvas 4 started today. The booking can be done for Rs 5,000 and the phone will be launched on July 8 and the delivery starts on July 10.

What is interesting is enough is that neither the price nor the specifications were revealed.

If a user does not like the phone when it is released, then the money will be refunded to the users. The remaining amount of the phone can be paid in EMI for 3,6 and 9 months. Anyone will have to notify the company about his decision or else, after the 15th, the money will be refunded and the order cancelled.
