Today the apex court rejected a PIL seeking CBI enquiry against Robert Vadra, Priyanka Gandhi’s husband and Congress President, Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law. The petition which was filed by advocate ML Sharma was dismissed on the grounds that Vadra cannot be termed a sinner by the Supreme Court Bench of Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice HL Dattu. The bench asserted this was a publicity stunt. The bench also specified that Vadra cannot be called a sinner only due to his linkage with a political party.
The senior IAS officer Ashok Khemka, in his report had stated that Vadra had given inaccurate documents to close a number of transactions which can be termed as fraud for the Rs 58 crores land sale in Gurgaon to DLF. He also stated that Haryana government has done Vadra a favour in these deals to which the state government has denied. Khemka was chargsheeted on grounds that he went beyond his power and cancelled the land deal between Vadra and DLF.
The death toll in the Patna serial blasts reached six with the bomber’s death late at night yesterday. The experts believe RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan in all probability is going to hike policy interest rate by 0.25% at least on Tuesday. Mainly to be done to curtail inflation this would be the 2nd hike in 1.5 months. On September 4 the repo rate was increased by 0.25% and the same is being expected to be the hike this time. The RBI had slashed the MSF or the marginal standing facility rate by 75 basis points or 0.75% on September 20.
The apprehension of the RBI’s monetary policy had an effect on the equity market. Sensex dipped by 113 points as FMCG, metal and bank stocks crashed. The 30 scrip BSE started at 20,696.51 points, and ended (provisional) at 20,570.28 points dipping by 113.24 points or 0.55% from Friday’s close at 20,683.52 points. Did Dawood Ibrahim walked into the Indian team’s dressing room and offer Toyota cars if they won the tournament? This fact was revealed by Dilip Vengsarakar the former cricketer but Kapil Dev, who was the skipper at that time has a different version. He said a gentleman walked into the dressing room and since outsiders were not allowed so he asked him to leave. The gentleman left immediately. Kapil Dev also stated he had no inkling of the car story and Vengsarkar may be knowing more if he said so. Incidentally Jaywant Lele, former BCCI Secretary has also mentioned about this in his book and has stated that since India lost as Australia had a better run rate, the man cried a lot. Later on they came to know he was Dawood Ibrahim and was the mastermind of Mumbai blasts in 1993.
Ram-Leela has been given a ‘UA’ certification by the Censor Board though this has raised the eyebrows as the movie has liberal dose of violence and explicit scenes not to be watched by anyone below 12 years of age even with parental guidance. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie which stars Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone is all set for a release on November 15. In fact Bhansali has himself accepted this is the most violent film he has ever made. The movie also has usage of foul language but in spite of all this the fact that the movie has received a UA certification will work for Bhansali. Bhansali’s all movies have earlier got a UA certification except Guzaarish.
