India and the US are delving into the possibilities of large scale collaboration for the generation and storage of power from renewable sources like solar and wind power to remove the concept of power cuts in India. A group formulated by the two countries will discuss financing options for this process that would encourage energy generation through renewable sources and integrate various renewable energy source with the grid and storage technologies. This decision to set up a group was finalized on Friday at the India-US energy dialogue co-chaired by B.K. Chaturvedi, member, Planning Commission, and US Energy Secretary Steven Chu.The members present included Indian Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai, US Deputy Energy Secretary Daniel Poneman and other senior officials from both sides. The discussion also looked into the huge trade and investment opportunities, which have come to the fore with discovery of US shale gas along with the investments made in this sector by Indian companies.
Justice Altmas Kabir, who is the seniormost judge of the Supreme Court, was sworn in as the 39th Chief Justice of India.President Pranab Mukherjee administered the oath taken by him,He will succeed S.H. Kapadia. He will be the Chief Justice of India till July 19, 2013.Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, senior BJP leader L.K. Advani, Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav and RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav were there at the swearing in ceremony along with cabinet ministers, including Kapil Sibal, Anand Sharma and Farooq Abdullah. The ceremony was also attended by some former judges of the apex court, Attorney General G.E. Vahanvati and other law officers of the government.
Geeta Phogat brought India's second medal in the Women's World Wrestling Championship in Edmonton by getting the bronze in the 55 kg freestyle category.Phogat defeated Ukraine's Nataliya Synyshyn 3:0 in the final of Repechage 1 on Friday. Maria Prevolaraki of Greece got the other bronze when she defeated Canadian Brittaneee Morgana Laverdure in Repechage 2.Saori Yoshida of Japan secured the gold defeating American Helen Louise Maroulis. She has been the Olympic Champion since 2004 and World Champion since 2002.Yoshida defeated Geeta in the quarterfinals before defending her title.That brought Geeta into the repechage round where she toppled Kazakhstan's Akziya Dautbayeva before facing Nataliya in the bronze play-off.Babita Kumari got the bronze in the 55 kg class on Thursday while Silpi Sheoran and Navjot Kaur finished fifth in 59 and 67 kg categories.
India's foreign exchange (forex) reserves has dipped by $502 million to $293.97 billion for the week which ended on Sep 21 as per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data.There was increase by $2.43 billion to $294.47 billion for the week ended on Sep 14 2012, and then growth by $1.58 billion to $292 billion for the previous week.Foreign currency assets (FCA), which is the major component of the forex reserves in the week under review increased by $48 million to $261.03 billion as per the weekly statistical supplement released by the RBI.The FCA had increased by $2.33 billion to $261.51 billion last week.The RBI in a statement specified that FCA in US dollar terms reflected the effect of appreciation or depreciation of non-US currencies such as the pound sterling, euro and yen that are in reserve.Value of gold reserves was static at $26.23 billion. The special drawing rights (SDRs) and reserves with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) dipped in the week under review.
Rajesh Khanna's last film "Riyasat", for which he did shooting just before he died on July 18, will release on Dec 28, a day before his 70th birth anniversary as informed by director Ashok Tyagi.Rajesh Khanna has a prominent role in the movie.The movie is ready, but Tyagi wants it to release on Rajesh Khanna's birth anniversary. The late actor had left a sealed letter which he wanted them to read just before the release of the film so that would be opened either on his birth anniversary, or just before the movie release as the director informed.For his role in "Riyasat", Rajesh Khanna is said to have watched the DVD of the 2005 Amitabh Bachchan-starrer "Sarkar".

India's heaviest communication satellite GSAT-10 launch was successful. It was launched by an Ariane-5 rocket from Kourou launchpad in French Guiana, as informed by ISRO on Saturday. The satellite will augment telecommunications, direct-to-home broadcasting and civil aviation needs.The European Ariane-5 rocket released the 3,400 kg GSAT-10 into an elliptical geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO) 30 minutes and 45 seconds after the lift off.When the satellite was released into orbit ISRO's master control facility at Hassan in Karnataka secured GSAT-10's command and control functions.
