The Supreme Court issued a stay order for the trial court proceedings against former IPS officer Amod Kanth in the Uphaar fire tragedy case which happened in 1997.The apex court bench of Justice KS Radhakrishnan and AK Sikri has also directed the CBI to submit its response to the petition of Kanth. In his petition Kanth has challenged the order of the trial court through which he was summoned for giving his permission for extra seats at the movie theater. In the fire 59 people died. Kanth has also appealed against the Delhi HC order which did not agree to quash the trial court summons issued to him. His counsels had stated that sanction to prosecute him was not procured so the summons should be quashed. In the petition it was also stated that trial court had erred in its judgment of rejecting the CBO closure report which gave Kanth clean chit.
Congress has moved the Election Commission demanding for strict action against remark made by Narendra Modi where he described the Congress as "poisonous". Congress has also sought for action against Vasundhara Raje and another BJP leader. The Secretary of AICC legal department K C Mittal in his complaint letter has specified that Modi had stated Congress was the only party which had the capability to spread poison as it had ruled for sixty years and had stored the poison all these years. On the other hand Raje had mentioned in her speech that poison was given in the name of medicines. This was in reference to the distribution of free medicines by the Congress government in Rajasthan. Congress in its complaint has mentioned that the three BJP leaders did not conform to the model code of conduct and presented distorted facts.
Ratan Tata has admitted that positioning Nano as the cheapest car was a mistake committed by the company as it has not helped the matters as far as marketing of the car is concerned. The chairman emeritus of the Tata group has stated the car is much in demand outside India and the company may think of launching it again in some other country and then bring it here. What is evident that the car will be in a new avatar with some added features. Nano’s sale has been falling like in the April-October period, the cars sale slumped by 71.7 per cent to 12,322 units from 43,627 units in the same period last year. The car which was unveiled in March 2009 was priced at Rs. 1 lakh for the basic model. Now it comes within the range of Rs. 1.45 lakh-Rs. 2.65 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for all variants. Nano had to face issues right from the manufacturing stage when its plant had to be shifted from Singur in West Bengal to Sanand in Gujarat after a political turmoil and farmers’ agitation.
Vinod Kambli, the former cricketer suffered a heart attack today and had been admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai in the cardiac ICU section. His treatment is being done there. Earlier in July 2012 angioplasty was done on him as he had two arteries blocked. The 41 year old Kambli got into limelight along with Sachin Tendulkar for the 664 runs partnership at a inter school match in 1988. He played 17 tests and 104 ODIs. Kambli recently had revealed his disappointment over Sachin not mentioning his name in the farewell speech he had given and the fact that he was not invited by his friend in the dinner after his retirement. As per the reports Kambli was driving when he suffered the heart attack and was taken to the hospital by a lady traffic officer who was on duty that time.

There would be comparisons between Nasa’s Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN) and Isro’s Mars Orbiter Misison (MOM) though the former was launched 13 days prior to the latter. The next 300 days these two spacecrafts from India and the US will be compared. MAVEN will reach Mars on Septmber 21, 2014 while MOM will on September 24, 2014. MOM will be carrying trans-mars injection procedure which MAVEN will not as MAVEN has directly been positioned on Mars unlike MOM. Isro scientists consider their process more effective than what NASA is following. The reason specified is that MAVEN will have only one chance to get in Mar’s orbit and if it fails then it will not have any other scope. But Isro’s MOM after reaching on September 24 will get one more chance after three days. Earlier too missions on Mars have failed because of this stage when a spacecraft reaches near Mars it is put in orbit by bombarding the liquid engine. Russia was not successful for 10 times, US six times in this stage.
