Technological Cooperation between India and the US Expands

After successful Mangalyaan mission, technology has become one of the main agendas of cooperation and partnerships between the US and India. Both countries are expected to sign an agreement to launch joint radar satellite mission. Other areas where partnerships are expected include education, health, manufacturing, and energy. On high-energy physics cooperation, USA and India are trying to sign two project annexes under Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) of India and US Department of Energy. Plans are also there between ISRO and NASA to have future missions to different outer-space destinations including moon.

Modi Stresses upon five aspects during Madison Square Garden Speech

Before a 20,000-strong crowd at New York’s Madison Square Garden, Narendra Modi stressed on five aspects during his speech: making development a movement; 3D strategy of Demand, Demographic Dividend, and Democracy; skill development and Make in India; commitment to clean-up Ganga; and unifying two schemes - Person of Indian Origin (PIO) and Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) – to help US nationals get long term visas.

Amazon has Big Plans for India

CEO and Founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, has said that Indian market has surpassed all the expectations of the company as it sold over Rs 6,000 crore or $1 billion worth goods during one year of operation in India. He wants to pump in more investment in India’s booming eCommerce market (travel excluded), which is expected to reach $22 billion in coming five years. Amazon will explore business opportunities in 35 million SMEs of India. 

Jayalalitha Loyalist O Panneerselvam becomes Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu

O Panneerselvam, loyal aide of J. Jayalalitha, has been sworn in as CM of Tamil Nadu as she was forced to resign from the CM’s chair after she was sentenced to four years imprisonment on corruption and disproportionate asset charges. The ex-CM has challenged her conviction at the Karnataka High Court and also sought immediate release on bail.

Modi meets Israel PM in New York

On the sidelines of UN General Assembly, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a 30 minute meeting with Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu and discussed multiple issues including the situation created in the West Asia by the terror outfit called Islamic State, defence cooperation, and economic cooperation. Netanyahu has also offered help in agricultural-related areas as well as water management.

Riot Police and Paramilitary Forces Control Communal Clashes in Vadodara

Police has arrested 40 people involved in communal clashes between Hindus and Muslims in Gujarat’s Vadodara district. Officials said that text messaging and mobile internet services have been suspended. Situation has been tensed in Vadodara for last several days. Paramilitary forces have been deployed and violence has been restricted to a handful of localities. 

India reaches 9th rank at Asian Games

India reached 9th rank after winning 4 Gold medals.  Besides Gold, till now India has won 5 Silver and 26 Bronze medals, taking the total tally to 35 medals. Wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt won the 4th Gold medal for India. In 20km Race Walking, Khushbir Kaur became first Indian woman to win a medal, creating a new national record (Time - 1:33:07). She won silver. M R Poovamma won Bronze in 400m race for women. India won 3 Bronze medals in women's doubles, men's doubles, and men's singles (Yuki Bhambri) Tennis events.

Rs 1,500 crore Deposited under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana

During New York’s Madison Square Garden speech, Narendra Modi informed 20,000 NRIs that under the 'Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana' till now around Rs 1,500 crore have been deposited. The ambitious scheme aims to open at least one bank account in every Indian family within less than 6 months time. By January 26, 2015, the scheme is expected to cover 7.5 crore people.

Indian Journalist Rajdeep Sardesai Roughed Up in New York

Shortly before Indian Prime Minister addressed twenty thousand strong NRIs at New York’s Madison Square Garden, one of the leading news journalists of India Rajdeep Sardesai was roughed up by supporters shouting pro-Modi slogans. The culprits called him ‘traitor’ as Sardesai is known among the staunchest critics of Narendra Modi.

Gates Foundation and Facebook to be involved with Swachh Bharat Mission

Senior Indian official revealed that government is in discussion with Gates Foundation and Facebook to rope them in accomplishing Swachh Bharat Mission. While Facebook is expected to launch a huge campaign for Swachh Bharat sanitation drive, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Melinda Gates will offer technology for building cost-effective toilets and also share their R&D experience. The Swachh Bharat Mission will be launched on October 2.

Assets of Top Haryana Leaders Swell during last 5 Years

Declared assets of top most leaders of different political parties in Haryana witness unprecedented jump. Haryana Janhit Congress president Kuldeep Bishnoi tops the list as his assets increased by 363 per cent between 2009 and 2014.Congress’s Savitri Jindal’s assets swelled by 159 per cent. Current Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s assets quadrupled in last 5 years. Others in the list are Venod Sharma, Chief of Haryana Jan Chetna Party, and Gopal Goyal Kanda, Chief of Haryana Lokhit Party.

26/11 Martyr's Wife Dies

 Kavita Karkare, the wife of former Maharashtra anti-terror squad chief Hemant Karkare, who was killed during 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks, has passed away after she suffered brain haemorrhage. Kavita became well known after she demanded better facilities, training, and weaponry for police personnel.
