Chakrata

Chakrata is noted for the serene environment and an unpolluted atmosphere. It is located at a distance of 98 kms from Dehradun. It has got an altitude of around 7000 ft. It houses a cantonment township. The northern region of Chakrata sub-division presents a wonderful landscape.

This is a paradise for the trekkers and the nature lovers. Extensive forests of coniferous trees, rhododendrons and oaks are ideal for long walks. There is an extensive dense jungle with dispersed villages of the Jaunsari tribe (around the area).

The region boasts of the 10,000 ft high peak of Kharamba. On the northern side is situated Mundali at 9000 ft. where you can enjoy skiing between the months of November to April.

Chakrata was once a cantonment of the British India. A sight of Chakrata ensures that the region is blessed with eternal natural beauty. Chakrata is known for its Alpine beauty as well. Those who are not from India should check up with the updated regulations regarding entry to this area from the civil authorities or the tourism department.
