Jhanda Fair


Jhanda Fair in Dehradun is organized annually at the Guru Ram Rai Darbar in the memory of the holy Guru Ram Rai. Dehradun has always been in news for its fairs and festivals as the people there love to celebrate every occasion.

The Jhanda Fair in Dehradun is celebrated to commemorate the arrival of Guru Ram Rai in Dehradun in the year 1699 after he was expelled from Punjab by his father Guru Har Rai for executing miracles in the court of Mughal King Aurangzeb. Guru Ram Rai then established his camp there and built a Gurudwara called Guru Ram Rai Darbar and hoisted his flag on it.

Since then this Jhanda Fair in Dehradun is organized every year with much of pomp and gaiety. People from all strata of society come together to enjoy. They wear the traditional dress, cook traditional food and sing and dance on the traditional notes.
