Several devotees come here to seek the blessing of Lord Shiva. Since Tapkeshwar is just about 5 kilometers from the Dehradun bus stand and 5.5 kilometers from Dehradun railway station, you can catch a bus or an auto rickshaw to visit the holy place.
Tapkeshwar Fair is celebrated at Tapkeshwar in the eastern bank of the River Tons. The whole place is a holy place and when you visit it you can feel the essence of the heavenly abode in the charming aroma of the surrounding of Tapkeshwar. You can visit the old temple of Lord Shiva that is housed inside a cave.
This cave outside which the Dehradun Tapkeshwar Fair is held, has a long mythological story attached to it. In the Skandpurana, the cave has been referred as Deveshwara and in the Dwaparyuga, it is believed to be the home of Guru Dronacharya, the legendary teacher of Pandavas and Kauravas.
Even his son Ashwathama is believed to be born here and the credit for the name of this place Tapkeshwar also goes to him. It is said that Ashwathama prayed to Lord Shiva by the name of Tapkeshwar and that is why the place is know as Tapkeshwar and the fair as Tapkeshwar Fair of Dehradun.
So if you are planning to visit the Doon Valley in February, do check out the Tapkeshwar Fair of Dehradun.
