Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium


The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is one of the most important Delhi sports stadiums and was constructed in the year 1982. It is situated on Lodhi Road, near the C.G.O complex in New Delhi. Spread over an expanse of 100 acres, the stadium has a sitting capacity of 75,000 people, especially during the footballs games. The capacity increases to 100,000 during any other athletic event.

A concert or an entertainment show the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium can accommodate 130,00 people. Some of the national and international concert events that have taken place in the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium include famous singers, musicians and performers. Thronged by millions during these events, the stadiums attains a completely different garb laced with the spirit of Delhi.

When it comes to hosting any tournament or state or national level sports competition, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is the first choice of the sporting authorities. It is due to host the commonwealth games in 2010. The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium also houses the office of the headquarters of the Indian Olympics Committee. It was also the host to the ninth India Asian Games. Apart from these, the stadium was also the host to the ODI matches played between India and Australia and South Africa respectively.
