Delhi Transport

Delhi Transport is well known in the country for its organized and systematic operations. The Capital city of Delhi is linked up with the important cities of India by National highways, Northern Railways and by Indian and private airlines. The Vast City lies in the intersection of a number of national highways such as NH-1,NH-2,NH-8,NH-10 and NH-25. It is also the head quarter of Northern Railways. The main railway stations of Delhi are New Delhi Railway Station, Old Delhi railway station and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station. Located only 23 km south of the Capital is the Indira Gandhi International Airport which is the major gateway for overseas travelers and functions as both international and domestic connections.

The vast city possesses a big chain of systematic road transport system namely the public transport and the private transport operating within the capital. The main public transporter of Delhi is the Delhi Transport Corporation or DTC. The Delhi public travels back and forth through Delhi Transport to reach out to their destinations. Inter State Bus Terminal near the Kashmiri Gate is a hub of regular bus service that connects every corner of the city.
  • The Delhi Cantonment Board, MCD, Delhi Development, Public Works Department Authority and NDMC maintains Delhi Transport via road. The Delhi Metro is the recent rapid transit systems maintained by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. Other Delhi Transport include metered taxis, auto-rickshaws and budget private car rental. The rates fluctuates from time to time but are the basic transport availed by the locales and the tourists visiting the city.

With the three Railway Stations in Delhi namely the New Delhi Railway Station, Nizzamudin Station and Old Delhi Station are big and effective railway network connecting Delhi with major cities of the Nation. Some of the major stations in and arounf the capital are Hazrat Nizamuddin, Pragati Maidan,Old Delhi,Tilak Bridge, Shahdara,New Delhi, Shakur Basti and Okhla.

Indira Gandhi International Airport or the Delhi airport situated in the south west corner of the capital operates as domestic(Palam airport) and international terminal. Being the busiest airport of South Asia, the Delhi air port provides several modern facilities to its foreign and domestic passenger. Both the Terminal 1(domestic) and Terminal 2 (international) wings provide money exchange service, recreational service and duty free shops to the travelers. Terminal 1 is about 5 km away from Terminal 2.

One of the mass rapid transit system is the Delhi Metro which is maintained by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. It serves to 1% of the total traffic.

Delhi has a good road transport facility. Bus service is one of the major mode of transport. Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) near Kashmiri Gate is the home of numerous public and private buses. Delhi Transport Corporation is the main public transporter that runs regular buses services connecting all the corners of the city. Other mode of Transport are pre-paid taxi service and auto rickshaws that is the easy option of the locals and the visitors of the city.
