Delhi School of Economics


Delhi School of Economics was established in 1949 as an outcome of a project that was led by Professor V.K.R.V Rao. The primary aim of this project was to develop a center of higher studies for the social sciences. This project was supported by Jawaharlal Nehru.

Departments of the Delhi School of Economics



Delhi School of Economics consists of the departments of Economics, Sociology and Geography. The department of Economics of the Delhi School of Economics is one of the most worthy departments. This department was conferred the status of Center of Advanced Study by the University Grant Commission. The year 1993 witnessed the creation of the Center for Development Economics with this department. This center was created with the aim of improving the research opportunities of the school. There is also a state-of-the-art computer centre in Delhi School of Economics. Indian Economic Review, Journal of Quantitative Economics and Indian Economic and Social History Review are the papers with which this school is associated. Delhi School of Economics offers the degree of M.A, M.Phil and PhD to its students.

The faculty and alumni of Delhi School of Economics consists of some of the most notable personalities of India such as Amartya Sen, Jagdish Bhagwati, Pranab Bardhan and also the present Prime Minister of India, Mr. Manmohan Singh.
