Captain Anuj Nayyar belonged to the Indian Army and was a junior army officer of the 17th Jat Regiment. Captain Anuj Nayyar is remembered for his brave feat in the Kargil War of 1999, for which he was awarded with the Maha Vir Chakra, posthumously. This award in the second highest gallantry award in India.
Captain Anuj Nayyar belonged to a wealthy Punjabi khatri family, who settled in New Delhi's Janakpuri area. His mother Meena Nayyar, has a job in the Delhi University's South Campus library. S.K. Nayyar, the father of Captain Anuj Nayyar was a professor in Delhi School of Economics. Captain Anuj Nayyar studied at the The Army Public School, located in Dhaula Kuan in Central Delhi. As a student he was a bright performer and was equally good in sports. He passed out from the school in 1993 and completed his graduation from the National Defense Academy.
The role of Captain Anuj Nayyar in the Kargil War has been etched in the minds of all Indians. The Indian Army could successfully recapture the Tiger Hill because of the unflinching heroism and leadership qualities of Captain Anuj Nayyar.
Captain Anuj Nayyar is recognized among some of the most important personalities of Delhi and just like many brave warriors, he fought for his country till his last breath.
