Sheila Dikshit


Sheila Dikshit was born on March 31st, 1938. She is the chief minister of Delhi since the year 1998 and is an active member of the Indian National Congress. She was the mastermind behind the setting up of two hostels meant for accommodating working women in Delhi. This, she enforced while she was chaired the Young Women's Association.

Educated in Miranda House in New Delhi and Convent of Jesus and Mary, she also holds a masters of Arts degree from Delhi University.

Sheila Dikshit gained her first footing in the politics of the nation by chairing the Young Women's Association in the 1970s. She also represented India for a period of five years from 1984 to 1989 at the United Nations Commission on Status of Women. The Political Career of Sheila Dikshit in Brief is as follows:

1984 to 1989- Representative of Kannauj Parliamentary Constituency, situated in Uttar Pradesh. As an active MP or the Member of Parliament, she also served office in the Lok Sabha Estimates Committee. Sheila Dikshit was also the chairperson of the Forty Years of India's Independence memorial Implementation Committee and the Jawaharlal Nehru centenary.

1986 to 1989- She was elected as the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and was slated as the Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office.

1998- Sheila Dikshit was the second women Chief Minister to be elected in the state.

2003-Sheila Dikshit was re-elected to the present political position.
