It is also very interesting to learn a few things about the history of Firozabad. The founder of Firozabad was Firoze Tughlak, one of the great rulers belonging to the Tughlak dynasty. He built the city in 1354 AD, along the banks of the river Yamuna and also named it as Kotla Firoze Shah. After the death of Firoze Shah, Taimur, the Turk ruler of Samarkand, invaded India and seized Firozabad. It remained the capital until it was moved to Agra by Sikander Lodi.
Firozabad was actually a very huge enclosure with high walls. Within the walls there were a water tank, pillared halls, a pigeon tower, mosques and palaces. Above the palace of Firoze Tughlak, the an Ashokan pillar, which was more than 1500 years old, was placed. The ruler also built many hunting lodges and mosques in Delhi and the surrounding places. Tourists can visit many of these, which still remain.
In the present times Kotla Firoze Shah or Firozabad is popular for the sports stadium, where cricket matches are held.
