Memorials in Delhi

It is important to visit the Memorials of Delhi because the memorials of some of most important historical personalities of India are situated in this capital city of India. Tourists from different parts of India and even world come to pay their homage to the memorials of Delhi.

Raj Ghat

Raj Ghat is the site where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated after his assassination on 30th of January, 1948. Raj Ghat is the memorial of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Located on the western bank of River Yamuna, Raj Ghat consists of a simple square shaped platform, with a black memorial stone. The words “Hey Ram” are inscribed in this black stone. The surroundings of the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi have been decorated with plants and trees and the entire place is also protected by high walls.

Tomb of Safdarjung

Tomb of Safdarjung is another important memorial of Delhi. This tomb was built in by the son of Safdarjung, Nawab Shuja-ud-Daulah during 1753 and 1754. This tomb is the memorial of Mirza Abul Mansur Khan, who was later given the honorable title of ‘Safdarjung’ by Muhammad Shah.

Shanti Bhavan

Shanti Bhavan is the memorial of the first Indian Prime Minister, Jawahar Lal Nehru, who expired in 1964. Shanti Bhavan lies close to the Raj Ghat and is beautified with trees and plants.

Some of the other important Memorials of Delhi are Shakti Sthala, Vijay Ghat, Kisi Ghat and Vir Bhoomi.
